FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Effective today, GreenPath Financial Wellness, a national nonprofit that provides financial counseling and debt management services, is affiliating with Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Puerto Rico (CONSUMER), a nonprofit financial education and counseling organization based in San Juan, Puerto Rico. CONSUMER also has a strong presence in Central Florida.
Together, GreenPath and CONSUMER will offer increased support to the 3.2 million people who call Puerto Rico home – helping them balance their budgets, reduce debt, rehabilitate their credit, acquire their first home, recover from storms, and regain financial peace of mind. While both organizations will continue to operate under their respective brands, the affiliation will facilitate greater shared resources, efficiencies, reach and capacity in these markets. Both organizations are members of the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC) and are accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA). CONSUMER clients can expect the same local, in-person service and will also have access to expanded counseling programs and new technology tools through GreenPath.
98 percent of Puerto Ricans identify as Hispanic and 62 percent of the U.S. population growth between now and 2025 will identify as Latino. GreenPath currently provides the option for a Spanish-speaking counselor across all services and about 25% of GreenPath’s client-facing employees identify as Hispanic or Latino. With a physical presence and heightened engagement in Puerto Rico and Central Florida, GreenPath will be able to strengthen its Latino growth initiatives. The affiliation will serve as an incubator for cultural insights, helping GreenPath develop new programs and digital platforms that meet Latino needs.
