Lubrizol Recognized with Four ACC Responsible Care® Awards

Awards given for exceptional commitment to environment, health and safety initiatives

CLEVELAND--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Lubrizol Corporation was recently awarded four Responsible Care® Awards from the American Chemistry Council (ACC). ACC’s Responsible Care awards program recognizes industry leaders who have made an exceptional commitment to environmental, health and safety (EHS) performance. The designations received are:

  1. The Waste Minimization, Reuse and Recycling Award: Lubrizol was recognized for its “Centrate Recycle” project at its Louisville, Kentucky, plant. The goal was to reduce water and steam consumption and to decrease the volume of water sent to the local publicly owned treatment works (POTW), through recycling materials in new ways. This enabled the plant to replace 50% of the hot water it used in a process and to eliminate the steam addition needed, saving 11.5 million gallons of water, 3.2 million pounds of steam and more than 240 tons of CO2 emissions annually.
  2. The Waste Minimization, Reuse and Recycling Award: Lubrizol’s Wickliffe, Ohio, site was recognized with Exceptional Merit for its “Scale Inhibitor Reformulations: No Waste Production” project. This initiative eliminates waste by reformulating products for oilfield applications to minimize risks associated with waste collection. Lubrizol reduced its waste production by more than 150 metric tons per year.
  3. The Energy Efficiency Award: Exceptional Merit was awarded to the company’s Avon Lake site for a carbon dioxide reduction initiative. Through analyzing every step in the material drying process to identify opportunities and a detailed action plan to improve energy efficiency, the plant achieved a 5% reduction in energy usage and a reduction of 650 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
  4. The Facility Safety Award for its significant achievements in employee health and safety performance for its U.S. sites.

“Lubrizol takes a holistic approach to safety and sustainability, from our innovation decisions to the work we are doing at our sites every day to enhance safety and reduce our environmental impact,” said Beth Grove, Chief Sustainability Officer, Lubrizol. “We are proud to be recognized by the American Chemistry Council for our relentless commitment to a safe and clean future.”
