Marking Arthritis Awareness Month, New Angry@Arthritis Podcast Attacks Failing OsteoArthritis Status Quo
Empowers Patients with First Direct to Consumer Access to New OsteoArthritis (OA) Science, Innovation, and Treatments from Global Research and Clinical Experts
ALEXANDRIA, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Angry@Arthritis is a new podcast for OA patients who reject the inevitability of Arthritis debilitation and joint replacements. It targets the patient OA information desert, bridging the research-clinical divide to offer patients new understandable insights on arthritis, its diagnosis, prognosis, and current treatment options.
Critically, the channel provides patient-friendly access to the world’s leading OA research and clinical experts talking about new treatments available today as well as new innovations on the horizon. In addition, Angry@Arthritis advocates for additional U.S. Federal funding for OA cure research – and it also provides a platform for patients and organizations to fund emerging new OA treatments directly.
OA is a debilitating disease that affects one in four Americans – but, for which there is currently no cure. The disease limits activity for one in 10 Americans – and costs our economy over $300 billion per year in lost productivity and medical costs. Every year more than 1.2 million Americans settle for the disability of joint replacements.
Working with the Arthritis Foundation, Angry@Arthritis focuses on the patient journey, tackling practical care decisions today – like dealing with orthopedists, rheumatologists, flavors of OA diagnosis, as well as the value of steroids, PRP, and expensive, offshore stem-cell treatments.
Further, partnering with OA research and clinical experts from Johns Hopkins, Stanford, the University of Basel, Duke, and University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, the podcast allows patients to hear directly from leading-edge research scientists, clinicians, as well as device and pharma companies – to understand new innovative treatments as well as Disease Modifying OA Drugs (DMOADs) currently in clinical trials. Angry@Arthritis explores new cartilage regrowth, synthetic replacement, as well as next-generation microfracture procedures that promise fixes today. Angry@Arthritis is partnering with the OA Action Alliance on patient engagement.
OA Innovation Shark Tank on Capitol Hill – May 11th

“Nearly a quarter of American adults suffer from some form of Arthritis, including more than 32 million who live with osteoarthritis,” said Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-VA). “On behalf of them and their families, I want to thank Angry@Arthritis for their advocacy and commitment to serving as a resource for people living with this disease. Together, we’ll keep up the fight for heightened awareness and more effective treatments.”
“When I got my OA diagnosis, I felt alone – and I quickly realized I was not alone in that feeling,” said Steve O’Keeffe, founder, Angry@Arthritis. “It’s really you and google against this disease. In the past 15 months, I’ve spent thousands of hours googling, read mountains of research papers, sent hundreds of emails, shelled out for dodgy cures, donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to research, and flown all over the world building relationships in order to get a good picture of the state of research and clinical science. I wanted to do more than commiserate with other people on a Facebook group – I created Angry@Arthritis to help other patients just like me.”
The first four podcasts:
Steve O’Keeffe – My Arthritis Journey – and Intro to Quest for OA Cure
Dr. Jason Kim – ABCs of OA – View from the Arthritis Foundation
Prof. David Hunter, MD – Ruminations on Rheumatology – Focus on Arthritis Diagnosis
Prof. Ivan Martin – Innovation – N-TEC Fixing OA in Humans in Switzerland
