Seward & Kissel Ranked as a Top 10 Firm Globally for Fund Formation by Private Equity International

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Seward & Kissel LLP, a leading national law firm, has been ranked as a top 10 firm globally for representing private equity funds in Private Equity International’s inaugural Fund Formation League Table. PEI’s Fund Formation League Table is the industry’s only ranking of law firms by number of funds advised and the underlying aggregate capital of funds closed.

Seward & Kissel, known for its practical approach to advising closed-end fund sponsors, represented funds that raised over $20 billion in aggregate capital from October 2021 through September 2022. The firm consistently launches private equity funds and other closed-end fund products such as private credit, venture capital, real estate, and hybrid funds for both first-time and established managers, including, for example, funds ranging from $175 million in commitments to more than $4 billion in commitments. The firm’s experience includes working with independent sponsors regarding SPV structuring for smaller investment opportunities as well as advising the largest asset managers that have launched private equity funds with over $15 billion in commitments.

“We are honored to be ranked as a top 10 firm globally for fund formation and believe this recognition accurately illustrates our representation of private equity managers, of which we represent more than 10 of the top 25 managers (by assets raised) in the U.S. It is an exciting time for the private fund industry and we look forward to working closely with our clients as they continue to evolve and react to ever-changing market conditions with innovative strategies and structures,” said Patricia Poglinco and Robert B. Van Grover, co-heads of Seward & Kissel’s Investment Management Group.

In determining this ranking, PEI included closed funds with institutional investor capital and limited liquidity options, including all master funds, continuation funds and co-investment vehicles, and excluding parallel funds, feeder vehicles, and SMAs.

“Private equity fund formation and related services have been a large driver of our firm’s growth and we expect this trend to continue given our firm-wide capabilities to advise sponsors on the full life cycle of their businesses and funds – including tax, transactions, corporate finance, and more. This recognition is another exciting achievement for our firm and a testament to the quality of our clients and their successes,” said Seward & Kissel’s managing partner Jim Cofer.

This recognition from PEI is one of a string of honors for the firm’s Investment Management Group with respect to private equity. Recently, the firm was also named by Private Equity Wire as the Best Law Firm for Transactions and Best Law Firm for Fund Structuring.
