Progressive Grocer Honors 2022 Top Women in Grocery

  • Trailblazer winners and Hall of Fame inductee named

CHICAGO--()--Progressive Grocer, the grocery industry’s leading media brand, announced today the winners of its prestigious female leadership program: Top Women in Grocery (TWIG).

Now in its 16th year, TWIG drew more than 1,100 nominations from diverse companies spanning the retail, wholesale, consumer packaged goods, research and marketing sectors of the industry.

“The grocery industry continues to make progress when it comes to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, and that’s in part due to the efforts of these remarkable women,” said Progressive Grocer Editor-in-Chief Gina Acosta. “The past year presented so many challenges and obstacles, yet the industry grows stronger, thanks to the inspiring work being done by this year’s Top Women in Grocery. We are thrilled to celebrate these changemakers.”

Highlights of the 2022 Top Women in Grocery include:

  • 401 women were named TWIG honorees in three categories: Senior Level Executives (97), Rising Stars (231), Store Managers (73).
  • Trailblazer Awards were given to The Kroger Co. VP of Operations Mary Ellen Adcock and Hershey Co. Chairman, President and CEO Michele Buck.
  • This year’s Hall of Fame inductee is Lynette Ackley, of Meijer.

Entries in the TWIG program were evaluated by an all-female panel of judges with deep industry knowledge and extensive food and consumables experience.

“Every year, thanks to the steadily increasing quality of the nominations in all of the categories, it gets more difficult to judge entries,” said Bridget Goldschmidt, Progressive Grocer managing editor. “Despite the challenge of narrowing down the honorees to the best of the best, our judges relish the opportunity to learn about these extraordinary women’s career paths in the grocery industry.”

TWIG winners are recognized in the June issue of Progressive Grocer and online at www.ProgressiveGrocer.com. They will also be honored at the annual TWIG gala and Leadership Development Program on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 3-4, as part of Grocery Industry Week (Nov. 2-4) at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress, in Orlando, Fla. Grocery Industry Week will also feature Progressive Grocer’s GenNext Awards, Grocery Leaders Forum and Retailer of the Century awards.

Registration for Top Women in Grocery and Grocery Industry Week will open here.
