GE Appliances Named Best Place to Work for LGBTQ+ Equality Five Years in a Row

Company makes donation to The Trevor Project in honor of perfect score

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--GE Appliances (GEA), a Haier company, has once again achieved a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index (CEI), earning the designation as a “Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality” five years in a row.

In honor of earning a perfect score for the fifth consecutive year, GE Appliances is donating $5,000 to The Trevor Project, the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ youth.

“Delivering on an inclusive company culture that commits to the policies, practices, and workplace benefits supportive of all employees is at the heart of this business," said Kevin Nolan, president and CEO of GE Appliances. "Being recognized once again as a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality reflects our strong commitment at GE Appliances to putting people first at a place where everyone has a seat at the table and all backgrounds are welcomed and valued."

The annual CEI is the nation’s leading benchmarking tool measuring corporate policies and practices for LGBTQ+ workplace equality. To earn a perfect score, businesses must have inclusive policies and practices that include transgender-inclusive healthcare, domestic partner benefits, public engagement and community support for LGBTQ events, non-discriminatory hiring and recruitment, and LGBTQ supplier diversity initiatives.

GE Appliances constantly looks for new and better ways to build the best, most inclusive workplace culture—providing benefits and policies supportive of all employees. As part its progress, GEA has taken additional steps that include extending benefits coverage to same and opposite-sex domestic partners, expanding paid leave for biological and non-biological parents, and launching Self-ID for sexual orientation and gender identity in its HR system.

“When the Human Rights Campaign Foundation created the Corporate Equality Index 20 years ago, we dreamed that LGBTQ+ workers—from the factory floor to corporate headquarters, in big cities and small towns—could have access to the policies and benefits needed to thrive and live life authentically,” said Jay Brown, Human Rights Campaign Senior Vice President of Programs, Research and Training. “We are proud that the Corporate Equality Index paved the way to that reality for countless LGBTQ+ workers in America and abroad. But there is still more to do, which is why we are raising the bar yet again to create more equitable workplaces and a better tomorrow for LGBTQ+ workers everywhere.”

GE Appliances joins the ranks of 842 major U.S. businesses earning top marks this year in the CEI, which also serves as a trusted guide used to decide where to work and what businesses to support based on corporate values and culture.
