O'Reilly Announces New Diversity and Inclusion Scholarship Program to Encourage and Support the Next Generation of Technology Talent

Scholarship Program to Provide Access to O’Reilly Online Learning to Help Members of Underrepresented Groups Stay Abreast of Top Technology Trends

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--O’Reilly, the premier source for insight-driven learning on technology and business, today announced that it has opened its diversity and inclusion scholarship program to help members of underrepresented groups stay on top of today’s most important technology trends. The scholarship program will award 500 recipients with a free membership to O’Reilly online learning for one year. Applications are being accepted now through May 15.

Membership includes access to unlimited live online training courses and live virtual events, such as O’Reilly’s popular Superstream series hosted throughout the year. Recipients can also get hands-on experience with technologies like Kubernetes, Python, Docker, Java, and more through interactive scenarios and sandboxes in live development environments. Additionally, they have access to top certification preparatory materials and interactive practice exams to help them earn powerful certifications that build their résumés for real, tangible career opportunities.

The O’Reilly diversity and inclusion scholarship program comes on the heels of several initiatives O’Reilly is committed to in order to foster better representation of people of all genders, races, ethnicities, religious views, sexual orientations, ages, and abilities. The company has set forth ambitious 2021 goals to change the face of O’Reilly by increasing the number of contributors from underrepresented groups—including course trainers, thought leaders, and speakers—to 40%. Internally, O’Reilly is also targeting that 40% of new hires this year will come from underrepresented communities.

“In 2015, we created a diversity and inclusion scholarship program to grant deserving talent from marginalized communities access to attend our live events. Many recipients went on to earn jobs at tech companies, and some even returned as speakers at our events. It was one of the best ideas I’ve brought to the company in my 20-year tenure,” said Laura Baldwin, president of O’Reilly. “But when we were forced to cancel in-person conferences due to COVID-19, these eager future technologists unfortunately lost the chance to learn from our community of experts. So we’re thrilled to bring this new scholarship opportunity to our learning platform as part of our larger diversity and inclusion plans. It’s an important inroad to the technology industry and encourages the next generation of tech leaders to build the skills they need to make a difference in the world.”
