Prospero Health Launches in California to Increase Access to Home-Based Medical Care for People With Serious Illness

Expansion will bring innovative care model to vulnerable patients across five counties

LOS, ANGELES--()--Prospero Health, a physician-led home-based health care company that supports over 9,000 people facing serious illness, announced today it is expanding across Southern California to serve patients in Los Angeles, San Diego, San Bernardino, Orange and Riverside counties. Prospero now supports patients across 21 states with an innovative care model that combines team-based in-home care with enhanced video consultation capabilities and 24/7 telemedicine support for people living with serious health conditions.

“We specialize in providing compassionate care for vulnerable people with advanced illness,” said Prospero co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer Doug Wenners. “Many of our patients have more than one chronic health issue and often face severe challenges associated with adverse social determinants of health. We provide medical and non-medical support for our patients and their families to help them live higher quality lives.”

Demand for in-home care and telehealth has increased steeply during the coronavirus pandemic, particularly for the most vulnerable populations including seniors with advanced illnesses and compromised immune systems. With vaccine rollouts off to a slow start across the country, millions of people still waiting to be inoculated remain at risk of contracting COVID-19 while the virus continues to spread.

“We’re excited to be able to offer our services to patients in Southern California,” said Dr. Jeanette Boohene, Southwest Regional Medical Director for Prospero. “Over the last year during the pandemic our clinicians across the country have been focused on keeping vulnerable patients safe and are now helping our patients access vaccines as they become available. We’ll now be able to offer our critical services to homebound seniors in California who continue to face major barriers to accessing both vaccines and comprehensive ongoing care.”

Prospero is prepared to serve more than 350 patients in Southern California this year. Working closely with patients’ existing primary care physicians and specialists, Prospero’s multi-disciplinary teams of doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses and social workers will ensure patients receive the care they need, where they need it. Prospero announced a national expansion in December of 2020 and continues to grow its footprint to reach more patients in need of care, with additional expansions planned over the coming months.
