Camber Spine’s OLIF Retractor System Receives ‘2020 Best Spine Technology Award’

Technology is an Integral Part of the OLIF Technique – a Less Invasive Approach to Spinal Fusion Surgery

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Camber Spine, a leading innovator in spine and medical technologies has been presented with Orthopedics This Week’s “2020 Best Spine Technology Award” for its Lateral ALIF / OLIF Retractor System, an integral part of the OLIF (oblique lateral interbody fusion) technique for anterior column reconstruction procedures.

The prestigious award, typically presented during the North American Spine Society (NASS) annual meeting, was presented virtually this year. The annual awards are voted on by a panel of highly accomplished neurosurgeons and orthopedic spine surgeons. The award is graded on originality, clinical relevance, the likelihood of improving patient outcomes, cost-effectiveness, and if the surgeon judging would use the technology.

As a key component of the OLIF technique, Camber’s OLIF Retractor System is designed to enable a highly versatile and safer alternative to a complicated surgical technique. The unique retractor design allows for a safe and customizable retraction of soft tissue and complete visibility of the operative site.

The OLIF technique is a methodology designed by surgeons seeking a less complicated, simpler approach to treating complex spinal pathologies. This procedure takes advantage of the natural corridor for an oblique surgical approach, anterior to the psoas muscle, which is performed while the patient is in a lateral position. The OLIF technique gives surgeons the ability to access multiple levels through one incision without having to reposition the patient and offers excellent disc space visualization.

The OLIF technique is gaining significant traction and increasing usage as physicians train in the modality. Due to its significant procedural advantages, the OLIF approach has projected procedural and market value growth over the next several years which is significantly greater than that of established approaches such as anterior, lateral, and posterior. Camber Spine is well positioned to be at the forefront of the faster-growth, exciting OLIF component of the interbody fusion market.

“Our comprehensive, patented and now award-winning OLIF technology platform has the potential to change the way spine care is delivered,” said Daniel A. Pontecorvo, Camber’s CEO. “Our national rollout of the complete system to support the OLIF at the 4-5 level and Lateral ALIF at the 5-1 procedures will take place in January of 2021 and will be a banner moment for Camber. We are incredibly excited to make it available to surgeons around the country and beyond.”

Pontecorvo added that next January’s rollout will include an aggressive effort by Camber to provide surgeons with training and education sessions, including cadaver labs, nationwide.

Innovative spine and medical technology company Camber Spine Technologies is dedicated to creating surgeon-designed solutions in MIS and minimally disruptive access for the treatment of complex spinal pathology. Incorporating state-of-the-art manufacturing, 3-D printing, and an acute sensitivity to patient anatomy, Camber Spine is making quantum leaps in the spinal fusion market.
