Spero Health Announces Expansion into Virginia with the Opening of Addiction Treatment Clinic in Petersburg

BRENTWOOD, Tenn.--()--Spero Health, a CARF-accredited organization specializing in local, affordable, outpatient care for individuals suffering from substance use disorder, just announced it is expanding into Virginia with the opening of a new clinic located at 34 Medical Park Boulevard in Petersburg. This new clinic joins a network of more than 35 Spero Health locations throughout Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee, and Indiana, providing care for more than 7,500 patients each month. Spero Health accepts Virginia Medicaid and most commercial insurance plans. The Petersburg clinic will open its doors on July 14th and will offer a combination of in-person and telehealth visit options. Individuals who need addiction treatment services are encouraged to call: 804-609-0175 for more information or to schedule an appointment.

Dr. Katherine Tyson will be the Medical Director and lead physician at the Petersburg clinic. “Spero Health is a transformative organization changing the landscape of addiction treatment by providing high-quality care, integrating all services under one roof for patients suffering from substance use disorders. It is my pleasure to be working in this community to help bring recovery home, removing treatment barriers and equipping individuals with the tools to improve their overall health to achieve sustained long-term recovery.”

The decision to open a clinic in Petersburg was in direct response to the heavy demand for a comprehensive addiction treatment solution locally. Virginia is experiencing a substance use crisis of overwhelming proportions. Across the Commonwealth, thousands of people have died due to fatal drug overdoses in recent years. According to local health officials, nearly 80% of these deaths involved prescription opioids or heroin.

“Recovery is possible for everyone, but the right supports must be in place,” said Steve Priest, CEO of Spero Health. “Individuals need fast access to coordinated and integrated treatment, and care needs to be individualized focusing on disease management rather than a certain time frame. While our public health system is battling one crisis with the recent COVID-19 outbreak, we cannot afford to overlook another one which has had a grave impact on our communities for years. During these past few months 2 epidemics have collided, creating fear and uncertainty associated with social and economic distress experienced because of the pandemic. It has aggravated psychological issues, and many people have turned to drugs and alcohol to ease the stress. We feel it is critical for communities to have access to life-saving addiction treatment options during this time, and we are working very hard to make that happen.”

Dr. Tyson added, “Addiction is complex and requires a coordinated effort on many fronts, we desire strong community partnerships in Petersburg so that we can be a resource and a place for hope and healing.”
