NextInput Delivers World’s First Integrated Digital Force Sensor in CSP

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--NextInput, Inc., the leader in MEMS-based sensing solutions, today announced the world’s first digital force sensor in a tiny 1.77mm2 CSP, representing a 76% footprint reduction compared to the smallest discrete solution. The new DF-8600 series represents NextInput’s 3rd generation sensor family, integrating a precision force sensor and an ultra-low power Digital Signal Processor (DSP). This tiny, micropower sensor displaces mechanical buttons and capacitive touch across many applications.

Compared to ultrasonic alternatives, the NextInput DF-8600 series recognizes intent and provides lower-power consumption, all at materially lower cost. Relative to ink-based strain-gauges, the DF-8600 series delivers 10x higher sensitivity and substantially greater reliability. The DF-8600 series recognizes any input (finger, glove, pen), operates in the presence of condensation or water, and reduces false positives; solving major limitations associated with capacitive-based technology.

“NextInput is the first company in the world to bring a fully integrated, chip-scale digital force sensor to market,” says Ali Foughi, NextInput CEO and Founder. “We are disrupting mechanical buttons, ultrasonic solutions, traditional strain gauges, and capacitive touch.”

NextInput’s DF-8600 is sampling now to select customers and mass production in Q2 2020.
