Copa and LATAM Airlines Group Steal the Show in OAG’s Punctuality League 2020

LATAM Airlines Group earns world’s most punctual mega airline for second consecutive year; Copa is the region’s top mainline carrier

MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--OAG, the world’s leading provider of travel data and insight, today released the results of the OAG Punctuality League 2020, the industry’s most comprehensive ranking of on-time performance (OTP) for the world’s largest airlines and airports. Copa Airlines (OTP 92.01%) and LATAM Airlines Group (OTP 86.41%) were the second and fifth most punctual airlines in the world.

The Latin American aviation market delivered strong punctuality across all global categories. The region had two low-cost carriers (LLCs) place in the top 10 of the LLC group: Sky Airline ranked fourth (OTP 83.42%) and Azul Airlines ranked 9th (OTP 80.40%). Year-over-year, LATAM Airlines improved its OTP and again finished as the world’s most punctual Mega Airline. Copa’s OTP increase of 2.22% made the airline the second most punctual mainline carrier globally, and the first in the region.

Latin American airports also achieved impressive results. Six earned placements in the top 20 Medium Airport category with Panama City (PTY; OTP 92.21%), Recife (REC; OTP 82.64%), Rio de Janeiro (GIG; OTP 82.06%) and Belo Horizonte (CNF; OTP 81.55%) placing in the top 10. The previously unranked Lima (LIM; OTP 83.15%) finished 9th overall for large airports, while Santiago (SCL; OTP 84.96%) climbed to 6th from 17th, and Brasilia (BSB; OTP 85.40%) placed fourth.

“For a large airline like LATAM to nearly hit 90% OTP and Copa’s home base of Panama to score over 92% is truly remarkable,” said John Grant, senior analyst with OAG. “OTP remains a constant focus for airports and airlines in Latin America, and it’s promising to see the market continue to deliver outstanding results.”
