American Water Names Mike Doran President of Pennsylvania American Water and Senior Vice President of its Mid-Atlantic Division

CAMDEN, N.J.--()--American Water (NYSE: AWK) announced today it has named Mike Doran president of Pennsylvania American Water and senior vice president of its Mid-Atlantic Division, effective Sept. 9, 2019. Doran replaces Jeff McIntyre, who is leaving American Water.

“We thank Jeff for his many contributions to our company and we wish him all the best,” said American Water’s chief operating officer, Walter Lynch.

“We are also very pleased to welcome Mike,” added Lynch. “Having grown up in Scranton, Pa., myself, I know Mike is a great fit for the Pennsylvania and Mid-Atlantic roles. He has spent the majority of his 36-year utility career building relationships across the Commonwealth. While he most recently served as the vice president of operations for Duquesne Light Co. in Pittsburgh, he spent more than 30 years with Allegheny Energy and FirstEnergy, resulting in ties throughout the region.

“Mike also has deep utility experience, a strong commitment to excellent customer service and a passion for safety, and he successfully builds and leads teams. I know he looks forward to working with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission and staff, elected leaders, customers and the community at large,” said Lynch.

Pennsylvania American Water provides water and wastewater services to approximately 2.4 million people and West Virginia American Water provides water service to approximately 550,000 people.

Doran joined Duquesne Light in August 2014 and was responsible for the company's engineering, transmission and distribution operations center, overhead, underground, substation construction and maintenance, customer contact center, and operations support services. In that role, he led more than 1,200 employees, providing transmission and distribution service to 590,000 customers.

Doran also served as Duquesne’s chief safety executive and directed transformational safety improvement within the company. Under his leadership, the organization saw a 75% reduction in employee injuries.

Prior to joining Duquesne Light, Doran served as the regional president of Metropolitan Edison Co., based in Reading, Pa. During his 31-year career with FirstEnergy and Allegheny Energy, he spent the first five years as a line worker at Monongahela Power in West Virginia and led a number of key teams and initiatives in the areas of safety, operations, process improvement and service reliability.

Doran was also a member of the FirstEnergy/Allegheny Energy Merger Team, where he completed a detailed assessment and developed strategies to merge organizational structures, as well as address processes and merger synergies.

He holds an undergraduate degree from West Liberty State College and a master’s degree in safety studies from West Virginia University. He is a past board member of the United Way of Westmoreland County and has been involved in multiple nonprofit and community groups in West Virginia and Pennsylvania.
