The River Fox Train Debuts Commemorative Locomotive Honoring America’s 250th and 200 Years of American Railroading
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The River Fox Train is celebrating two national milestones on the rails with the debut of its new America 250 Locomotive—a custom-wrapped tribute that blends patriotic imagery with the iconic landmarks of California's Sacramento Capital Region. The locomotive arrives as the nation looks ahead to 2027, the 200th anniversary of American railroading.
2027 marks 200 years since commercial rail travel began in the United States in 1827. Railroads went on to connect the country’s cities, open new markets and drive the nation’s industrial growth. Museums, historic stations and heritage railways across the country will mark the anniversary throughout the year. The River Fox Train’s own line, built in 1911 to connect agricultural communities in the Sacramento Valley, is part of that history.
Transforming one of its locomotives into a moving work of art, the new design features the American flag, official America 250 branding, and a vibrant depiction of the Sacramento skyline and Tower Bridge. The locomotive celebrates both the nation's milestone anniversaries and the region the River Fox Train proudly calls home, creating a one-of-a-kind experience for residents and visitors alike.
The locomotive will operate across the River Fox Train's signature experiences, including the Magical Christmas Train, Old Vine Express, Murder Mystery Dinner Train, Afternoon Tea, and other seasonal excursions. The commemorative wrap is expected to remain on the locomotive through 2027, allowing guests to experience this rolling tribute to the nation's semi-quincentennial through the bicentennial year of American rail.
"The River Fox Train has always been about bringing people together through shared experiences and celebrating the communities we serve," said Alicia Carpenter, Assistant General Manager of the River Fox Train. "We wanted to create something that reflects the pride we have in our country while also highlighting the beauty, history, and spirit of California's Sacramento Capital Region. With 2027 marking 200 years of American railroading, this locomotive is also a tribute to the industry that transformed this country. Rail built our economy and shaped communities like ours, and we’re proud to help carry that story forward. We hope this locomotive becomes a memorable part for our guests and our community."
The locomotive will serve as a moving symbol of patriotism, regional pride, and shared experiences. From year-round scenic excursions to unforgettable journeys through the Sacramento region, guests can enjoy a unique rail experience aboard the locomotive honoring our community, our nation, and two centuries of American rail.
