Insurity Challenges the P&C Insurance Industry to Rethink Who Owns AI as Core Platforms Race to Acquire It
As the market consolidates around acquired AI, Insurity argues the defining question of the next decade isn’t whether carriers have AI, but whether they control the intelligence that runs their business
HARTFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Insurity, a leading provider of cloud-based software for insurance carriers, brokers, and MGAs, today called on the insurance industry to rethink who controls the intelligence powering its core operations. As core platform providers race to acquire AI capabilities and integrate them into existing systems, Insurity is reaffirming its AI-native strategy that gives carriers greater control over their models, data, and decisions, with governance and auditability that operate independently of any individual AI model.
The wave of AI acquisitions confirms what the industry already knows. AI is no longer a differentiator in core insurance technology, it is the baseline. As AI becomes embedded in underwriting, pricing, and claims, the ability to maintain control over the intelligence making those decisions, and the cost of changing it, will increasingly determine how insurers compete and innovate.
“Every major technology shift in insurance has created a new form of lock-in, and AI is on track to create the most consequential one yet,” said Jatin Atre, Chief Executive Officer of Insurity. “When a carrier’s underwriting judgment, claims triage and pricing logic all run through a single vendor’s acquired model, that carrier hasn’t just bought software. It has handed part of its institutional judgment to someone else’s roadmap. We built Ratio on the opposite premise: AI-native from the ground up, with governance and control that aren’t dependent on any model. Carriers spent a decade learning what it costs to be locked into one core vendor’s release cycle. They shouldn’t have to relearn that lesson with AI, where the stakes are far higher.”
Insurity’s platform lets carriers choose, combine and change the large language models behind their workflows, whether from today’s leading AI models or emerging models yet to enter the market, without re-architecting workflows or losing audit history. A governance and audit layer that operates independently of any individual model allows carriers to maintain control over how AI interacts with insurance workflows, executes business actions, and makes decisions. Every automated decision runs through the same governed, carrier-controlled framework, regardless of which model is doing the reasoning. The effect is that a carrier’s competitive advantage builds up in its own data, rules and decision history, not inside a vendor’s black box.
The timing matters. Frontier AI models now improve on a cycle measured in months, while core insurance systems are replaced on a cycle measured in decades. Fusing the two creates a structural mismatch that risks leaving carriers running yesterday’s intelligence long before their technology contract expire.
Insurity is encouraging carriers, regulators and partners to test any AI-enabled core platform against three critical measures: portability, accountability, and economics. Carriers should be able to change underlying models without rebuilding workflows or losing the governance surrounding them, trace AI-driven decisions to the models, data, and rules involved, and understand the cost of AI per decision alongside the financial implications of changing providers. These capabilities will become increasingly important as insurers seek to apply AI to more complex insurance operations while maintaining control over how those decisions are executed and governed.
As AI agents take on a growing share of routine underwriting, servicing and claims work, trust, governance, and transparency will matter as much as the models themselves. Insurity is helping carriers prepare for that future with greater visibility into how decisions are made, which models are involved, and what it costs to change course, so they can scale AI without inheriting a new generation of vendor lock-in.
