Kathryn Coulter Mitchell joins Academy after a career at the most senior levels of the U.S. government. Most recently, she served as Chief of Staff of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), where she directed strategy, compliance, and resourcing in support of the agency’s mission to protect the nation’s critical infrastructure. Before CISA, she served as Acting Under Secretary for the Department of Homeland Security’s Science and Technology Directorate, overseeing a $1 billion, 1,000-person organization and leading the Department’s technology gap assessment. Earlier, she spent five years on Capitol Hill leading legislative efforts in both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate and served as Director of Policy for an association representing more than 350 federal contracting companies.
“We are pleased to welcome Kathryn to the firm’s Advisory Board,” said Academy’s Chairman and CEO Chance Mims. “Her leadership at CISA and the DHS Science and Technology Directorate gives our clients a rare view into how the government assesses cyber and infrastructure risk and which technologies it will actually adopt.”
Ms. Mitchell commented on joining the firm: “I am honored to join veteran-led Academy Securities’ Geopolitical Intelligence Group. Decisions made in Washington increasingly move markets, and I look forward to helping Academy's clients navigate government-driven risk and opportunity, including the growing demand for homeland security innovation.”
Ms. Mitchell holds a master’s degree in communications from Johns Hopkins University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland, College Park.
“Kathryn has worked on Capitol Hill, inside the agencies, and alongside the contractors competing for federal business,” said Academy’s Vice Chairman Phil McConkey. “That full view of how policy becomes program will be a strong addition to our Advisory Board.”
