PAKA Pledges 90% Natural Fiber By 2035 to Raise the Standard for Sustainable Apparel

Marking its 10-year anniversary, the alpaca apparel brand commits to systematically reducing synthetic materials across its product roadmap through regenerative natural and plant-derived fiber design.

BOULDER, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--PAKA, the pioneer behind traceable alpaca fiber, today announced a sweeping mission to redefine the apparel industry in honor of its 10-year anniversary. By committing to a 90% natural and plant-derived fiber standard over the next decade, PAKA solidifies its position at the forefront of the natural fiber movement.

To achieve its 90% natural and plant-derived fiber footprint, PAKA is systematically reducing the use of synthetic materials. In addition to its flagship alpaca fibers, PAKA will be increasing the use of other natural and plant-derived fibers - from regenerative pima cotton to hemp.

PAKA is engaging its global community through three core initiatives:

  • Anniversary Film: A documentary film that captures PAKA’s 10-year evolution and founder Kris Cody’s journey from the Peruvian Andes to a trip around the world to explore new fibers, while previewing future material developments.
  • Limited-Edition 10-Year Capsule: A special product collection honoring PAKA’s first decade while showcasing the brand’s future design direction. PAKA will donate 10% of sales from the 10-Year Collection to the PAKA Foundation, which will use the funds to support Andean communities in Puno facing severe water shortages – helping impacted families and the alpacas they depend on.
  • A PAKA Product Promise: Four guiding principles for every new PAKA product: Go to the source; choose the right partners who meet social, environmental, and quality standards; build traceability into every fiber and share it with full transparency; and give back to the source to support the communities and places behind what PAKA makes. Over the past decade, PAKA has grown from a single alpaca sweater made on a rooftop in Cusco, Peru into an international apparel brand. Today, the company operates out of its new headquarters in Boulder, Colorado, with an expanding global team in Peru and beyond. The brand has broadened its product portfolio from its flagship hoodie into other apparel categories, while continuing to expand its impact of the PAKA Foundation to work hand-in-hand with Andean communities to preserve tradition, support well-being for families and animals, and expand access to education and opportunity (2025 Impact Report).

“About a year ago, I began asking myself a question that felt bigger than any we’d faced before,” said Kris Cody, Founder and CEO of PAKA. “Alpaca brought us here - where do we go next? Peru and alpaca will always be PAKA’s heart and home. But what we've built has now created a blueprint for something bigger - an opportunity to take what we’ve learned and apply those same source and transparency principles to other natural fiber origins. In order to realize this vision, we need to expand our horizons.”
