Nova Scotia Power Announces Leadership Transition to new CEO

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nova Scotia Power today announced that Chris Smith has been named President and CEO of the utility, effective November 2, 2026. Currently Executive Vice President, Finance and Commercial, Chris joined Nova Scotia Power in 2017.

Vivek Sood, who joined the company as CEO earlier this year, has announced his decision not to renew his contract. Over Vivek’s time as CEO, he provided steady leadership through a challenging period, helping to stabilize operations, rebuild trust and strengthen the focus on reliability, while moving important work like securitization forward. Vivek will work with Chris and the leadership team at Nova Scotia Power, ensuring these critical areas remain in focus through and after transition.

Chris brings extensive utility experience and deep knowledge of the business to his new role. He has served in several senior executive roles throughout his time with Nova Scotia Power and was previously President of Heritage Gas (now Eastward Energy) before joining the company almost a decade ago.

“On behalf of the Board, I’d like to thank Vivek for his leadership during a pivotal year for Nova Scotia Power, and to welcome Chris as CEO,” said Scott Balfour, Chair of the Nova Scotia Power Board of Directors. “Chris is a proven leader who deeply understands the business and the importance of maintaining focus on the priorities ahead. That includes supporting the new Nova Scotia Independent Energy System Operator through a complex transition in generation and system planning, while continuing Nova Scotia Power’s work to improve reliability and manage cost impacts for customers.”
