Walmart Expands Better Care Services, Powered by General Medicine’s Healthcare Store

Building on its growing network of third-party providers, Walmart is making it easier for customers to discover, compare, and access care with clear information about their options and potential costs.

BENTONVILLE, Ark.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Following the launch of Better Care Services earlier this year, Walmart today announced a major expansion of its Better Care Services platform with a healthcare-store experience powered by General Medicine, further expanding its marketplace of third-party providers. Combining Walmart’s reach and established consumer offerings with General Medicine’s purpose-built care catalog, the expanded experience brings customers more care options, a single catalog that makes it easier to compare services across third-party providers, and upfront information about potential costs with and without insurance.

Making Healthcare Shoppable

Healthcare has never worked like a consumer market. People can know what they need and still struggle to understand their options, evaluate provider fit, or figure out what care will cost. Better Care Services is designed to make that process easier by helping customers evaluate available services and make more informed decisions about their care. General Medicine makes Better Care Services more shoppable by bringing services from several third-party providers into a single catalog where customers can compare options, evaluate costs, and choose the care that works for them. With the expanded experience, customers can:

  • Explore care options. Browse available services and providers for a variety of health needs including urgent care, pediatric care, mental health care, nutrition services, and weight-management support.
  • Compare potential costs. See estimated out-of-pocket costs based on individual insurance information, alongside cash prices where offered, before deciding how to proceed.
  • Find options that fit their needs. Evaluate available services based on factors such as location, cost, availability, and personal preferences.
  • Take the next step. Access the booking or other fulfillment options available for each service.

The expanded marketplace brings together services offered by General Medicine, alongside more than 10 existing third-party providers, with plans to add more providers over time.

Walmart brings the customer-facing experience, while General Medicine provides the technology that connects care options, coverage information, and potential costs behind the scenes. General Medicine also manages customer accounts and information separately from Walmart's retail business, helping customers explore care options with greater clarity while keeping their health information with the platform and providers delivering their care.

“At Walmart, we’re always looking for ways to make the customer experience simpler and more useful,” said Ralph Clare, Executive Vice President, Health & Wellness, Walmart U.S. “Expanding Better Care Services brings more care options into one place, helping customers explore what’s available, compare choices, and take the next step in a way that works for them.”

“Healthcare needs a store,” said TJ Parker, CEO of General Medicine. “We’re building the care catalog that makes options easier to understand, compare, and buy. Walmart is an important partner in bringing that vision to life, showing how a more shoppable healthcare experience can meet customers where they already turn for everyday needs.”

Connecting More of the Health Journey

Whether customers are managing a chronic condition, navigating an unexpected health need, or taking steps to improve their everyday well-being, Walmart is focused on making it easier for them to get the support they need. With thousands of pharmacies and vision centers, a broad assortment of health and wellness products, and a growing network of third-party healthcare providers, Walmart is uniquely positioned to help customers meet a wide range of health needs. By making it easier to shop care options through General Medicine’s care catalog, Walmart is expanding the ways customers can discover and compare services across a broader range of health needs.

Building on Walmart’s Focus on Affordability

From introducing $4 generic prescriptions more than 20 years ago to expanding access to virtual care and other healthcare services, Walmart continues to look for ways to help customers access the care they need. The expanded Better Care Services experience builds on that commitment by giving customers more ways to explore care options and clearer information about potential costs.
