Abnormal AI Joins Project Lifeline 250 to Strengthen Cybersecurity for Rural South Carolina Hospitals

Abnormal will offer its Behavioral Security Platform, which protects email, identity, and AI, at no cost to participating hospitals

NEWBERRY, S.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Abnormal AI, the AI-native behavioral security company, today announced its participation in Project Lifeline 250, a six-month pilot, led by the White House Office of the National Cyber Director (ONCD) and coordinated by South Carolina Governor’s Office, and South Carolina Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity (SC CIC) to deploy superintelligence (SI)-enabled cybersecurity capabilities across rural hospitals in South Carolina.

The pilot is designed to strengthen the protection of these institutions against cyberattacks and improve their resilience. Abnormal is one of several companies contributing tools, expertise, and resources to help harden critical infrastructure against a threat landscape that is increasingly shaped by AI-enabled attacks.

Healthcare remains the costliest industry for data breaches, averaging $6.64 million per incident. For rural hospitals, where lean IT teams are often responsible for systems that keep patients safe, a single successful phishing email or compromised account can disrupt crucial care.

“Rural hospitals carry a remarkable responsibility in South Carolina. They serve some of the state’s most vulnerable patients, often as the only source of care for miles. Their attention belongs at the bedside, on healing, and on delivering positive patient outcomes that matter most, rather than on the weight of cyber risk. We are deeply honored to join Project Lifeline 250 and to help ensure that those who serve their communities are not burdened by the threat of a cyberattack, ” said Yejin Jang, VP of Government Affairs at Abnormal AI. “Attackers rely on appearing familiar, and rural hospitals face that pressure with far fewer resources. We are proud to bring behavioral protection to the hospitals that need it most.”

Abnormal will offer its Behavioral Security Platform to participating hospitals at no cost for the duration of the pilot. The platform is designed to help organizations defend against attacks across email, identity, and AI, from stopping phishing, impersonation, and business email compromise in the inbox to detecting compromised accounts and protecting the AI tools and agents hospitals increasingly use.

Abnormal’s Behavioral Security Platform flags activity that deviates from what’s normal for each person, account, and AI agents. This can help short-staffed IT departments in rural hospitals surface and contain threats before they disrupt patient care, and is designed to complement the security systems for devices, networks, and sensors that other participants are contributing.

This work builds on Abnormal's growing presence in the public sector, including its recent participation in Project Watershed 250, which aims to strengthen cybersecurity protections for water and wastewater utilities across Texas. Recent GovRAMP and FedRAMP Moderate Authorizations support that momentum, enabling state, local, education, and federal agencies to deploy Abnormal's AI-native protection against advanced email and identity-based threats.
