83% of Leaders Are Satisfied With Their AI Setup, but 7 in 10 Say Their Company Hasn't Fully Integrated It, monday.com Research Reveals
Half of senior leaders say AI makes it harder to evaluate employees' original contributions
A further 58% expect to manage more agents than people within a year
NEW YORK & TEL AVIV, Israel--(BUSINESS WIRE)--monday.com Ltd. (NASDAQ: MNDY) today released Squinting in the Sun, a global study finding that senior leaders are confident using AI, despite significant barriers preventing their organizations from adopting the technology more effectively. monday.com commissioned Nielsen to survey 1,701 directors and senior managers at companies with 500+ employees across the US, UK, Australia, Germany, France, Brazil, and Singapore on their attitudes towards AI at work. The full report is available here.
The survey found that leaders are beginning to thrive with AI in their own workflows: 94% find optimization opportunities exciting, and more than 8 in 10 are satisfied using it and confident about where to apply it. That individual-level success shines brightly, however it may also be narrowing the field of view, creating a haze around organization-wide struggles – standardizing AI tools, evaluating employees' work, and overseeing AI agents.
The Three Glares
The report identifies three glares with one shared cause: AI is moving faster than the processes built to keep up with it.
The Infrastructure Glare. Despite high individual confidence, less than a third (29%) of leaders say AI is fully integrated into a central system with shared data libraries and automated cross-departmental workflows. A slight majority (57%) say the number of software tools their team uses has actually increased since AI use grew. About half (51%) also report using both company-approved AI and other AI tools at work.
The Attribution Glare. As AI takes on more of the work, determining who or what is responsible for an output has become harder to answer. Over half (53%) of leaders say it is now more difficult to evaluate employees' original contributions, while a further 78% say their criteria for assessing performance have changed. There's been a notable increase in how AI tools are used to assess individual performance too, with 46% saying they now use AI to review their own work and decisions.
The Oversight Glare. The most forward-looking finding concerns AI agents. More than half of leaders (58%) expect to manage more agents than people within a year. Yet 46% cite lack of human oversight as their primary concern, and 35% worry about being held accountable for decisions made by an agent.
"Today’s leaders are ready, willing, and able to deploy AI in their own workflows," said Michal Miller Levi, Head of Market Research and Customer Insights, monday.com. "But real value from AI at work comes from the ability to make it an integral part of core business activities across the entire organization, and that's where many struggle. The answer is to match the excitement of AI with the company-wide processes and structure needed to maximize its effectiveness."
The report recommends that organizations follow three C’s: Context, Collaboration, and Control when building AI workflows that will help alleviate these glares.
The Nielsen survey was commissioned by monday.com and fielded in April 2026 among 1,701 directors and senior managers at companies with at least 500 employees: US (n=350), UK (n=350), Australia (n=200), Germany (n=200), France (n=201), Brazil (n=200), and Singapore (n=200). The sample was balanced by job level (51% director, 49% senior manager) and department (48% IT, 52% non-IT).
