WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--National Geographic:

  • Today, National Geographic revealed its BEST OF THE WORLD 2027, the annual list of 25 must-visit destinations and travel experiences that deserve a place on travelers’ calendars in the year ahead. Now in its 15th year, the BEST OF THE WORLD franchise continues to inspire travelers to explore the world with curiosity and a sense of discovery.
  • Selected by National Geographic’s global community of travel experts and editors, this year’s list offers timely reasons to explore every corner of the globe. The 2027 picks range from Baltimore, where the birthplace of American railroading will mark its bicentennial, and Normandy, which will celebrate 1,000 years since the birth of William the Conqueror, to Luxor, Egypt, where a total solar eclipse will cast the ancient city into more than six minutes of daytime twilight.
  • BEST OF THE WORLD 2027 looks beyond the obvious to highlight places where new openings, landmark anniversaries, cultural celebrations and improved access are creating fresh ways to experience a destination. Travelers can discover the new Cape Froward National Park at the southernmost tip of South America, hike evolving long-distance routes through Armenia, experience community-led adventures in Mexico’s Maya Ka’an region or explore Malawi’s restored wildlife reserves and uncrowded natural landscapes.
  • “Curiosity has always been a catalyst for travel. For more than 130 years at National Geographic we’ve been exploring the world both to encounter new places and to deepen our understanding of them. Best of the World 2027 was created in that spirit, offering travelers 25 places that our editors believe will be most rewarding to them in the year to come. Whether you are up for a far-flung adventure or looking for fresh reasons to see somewhere closer to home, we hope this list inspires trips that connect you to all the exciting opportunities that are out there to experience and get to know the world in entirely new ways,” said Nathan Lump, editor-in-chief of National Geographic.
  • National Geographic also celebrated the launch on social media with a “Readers’ Choice” campaign in the weeks leading up to this year’s BEST OF THE WORLD announcement. @NatGeoTravel invited audiences to share their favorite travel destination recommendations ahead of the full-list reveal. Over the last few weeks, @NatGeoTravel followers have nominated hundreds of destinations, ultimately selecting Kotor, Montenegro; Son-Kol Lake, Kyrgyzstan; Catamarca, Argentina; Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Uganda; and Santa Catalina Island, U.S.A., as the five finalists. Audiences officially named Santa Catalina Island, as the Readers’ Choice winner, which is highlighted on this year’s list at NatGeo.com/BestOfTheWorld.
  • BEST OF THE WORLD 2027 can be found online beginning Oct. 20 at NatGeo.com/BestOfTheWorld, where readers can explore each destination through National Geographic photography and reporting.
