Clinical documentation and charting is the leading contributor to burnout among independent practices, especially among primary care and mental health practices, according to a survey of independent practices. Clinical documentation remains one of the leading sources of administrative burden for independent practices.
Tebra’s AI Note Assist drafts clinical notes as the provider sees patients, empowering customers to focus on the patient in every encounter and save valuable time. Average documentation time fell from approximately 23 minutes per note to approximately 14 minutes, a reduction of about 9 minutes, or 39% for customers using AI Note Assist, based on feedback from over 2,000 customer survey responses.
"Our customers choose their profession because of their passion for helping patients, not paperwork,” said Dan Rodrigues, CEO of Tebra. “More than a million notes later, AI Note Assist has become a core part of how our providers document care, and the time it gives back is time they can spend running their practices and caring for patients."
Rapid adoption, deep everyday use
Providers have created more than 1,065,000 clinical notes with AI Note Assist as of August. Unlike standalone AI scribes, Tebra’s solution is fully integrated into its EHR workflows. It converts in-person and telehealth/virtual patient-provider conversations into structured notes and suggests diagnoses/ICD-10 codes based on relevant details shared during the patient visit in the Assessment section.
Supporting formats such as SOAP, Therapist Initial, Therapist Progress, Psych Initial, and custom note formats ensure both general medicine and behavioral health customers can benefit from reduced administrative burden.
Customers are seeing large increases in time saved. The share of customers completing notes rose more than fourfold, from 7.2% without AI to 30.9% with AI Note Assist. Additionally, the share of customers who reported marathon note sessions – spending 30 minutes or more per note – fell by 58% among Tebra AI Note Assist customers compared with those not using the product, according to survey respondents.
Tebra adds more capabilities to AI Smart Staff
AI Smart Staff is Tebra’s suite of AI tools for independent practices, covering clinical documentation, billing review, patient calls, and reputation management. Since the launch of Tebra AI Note Assist, Tebra has added features to save customers time, energy, and focus. These include:
- Custom Note Types: AI Note Assist supports bespoke note types, allowing providers to generate structured notes for the templates they use across specialties and customized workflows.
- AI Patient Summaries: Providers see a concise, clinically relevant patient summary ahead of each visit, eliminating the need to dig through the chart before a visit and reducing prep time significantly. The summaries are tailored to the chief complaint for the specific appointment and surface data such as recent notes, problems, medications, allergies, labs and/or vital information, and relevant procedures and/or imaging.
- AI Billing Assistant: Billers get a second set of eyes on every claim with this AI-led tool, which uses real-world claim data to identify potential issues that lead to denied claims before they’re submitted. Customers save time and improve cash flow by addressing risks to claims submission.
- AI Voice Assistant: A front desk AI assistant directly integrated into Tebra’s EHR to manage patient calls, scheduling, and prescription refill requests, significantly reducing front-desk workload. This solution helps practices eliminate front-office admin, capture more appointments, and address missed demand.
Through the rest of the year, Tebra will continue to roll out enhanced and new AI capabilities to ensure independent practices can focus on what they do best – helping patients.
