Behind the Knife and OpenEvidence Announce Collaboration to Bring Innovative Surgical Education to the Point of Care

Partnership brings Behind the Knife's surgical education library into the OpenEvidence platform and embeds OpenEvidence in BTK's learning tools.

MIAMI & SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Behind the Knife, the world's most listened-to surgery podcast and a leading nationwide source of surgical education, and OpenEvidence, the most popular AI for doctors in the United States, today announced a collaboration to expand access to innovative, surgeon-developed education tools and AI-informed resources.

OpenEvidence works with leading medical societies, journals, and education partners to bring trusted, evidence-based guidance to clinicians within their existing workflow. The collaboration with Behind the Knife extends that work into surgical education during medical school, residency and fellowship training, and in daily independent practice.

"OpenEvidence has established itself as the undisputed gold standard in medical language models, and an indispensable daily tool for our team at Behind the Knife," said Patrick Georgoff, MD, Co-Director of Behind the Knife. "We are thrilled to explore how this technology can be integrated into practical, multimedia surgical education, delivering dynamic, high-yield content that meets modern trainees exactly where they are."

This collaboration creates a dual-platform learning and clinical decision support ecosystem. Behind the Knife's resources — including their multimedia Trauma Surgery Video Atlas and their extensive network of senior surgical experts — will enhance OpenEvidence query returns. In parallel, the OpenEvidence platform will be natively integrated into Behind the Knife's educational content, including their American Board of Surgery In-Training Exam (ABSITE) review, oral board preparation, and innovative general surgery and surgical critical care curricula. Uniting a premier AI-driven source of truth with surgical education's most innovative platform opens new ground for the modern learner.

"OpenEvidence was built to give physicians the best available evidence at the point of care. But in surgery, the toughest decisions often live between the lines—in the judgment calls that no guideline can fully address. As a vascular surgeon who used Behind the Knife throughout my training, this collaboration reflects our commitment at OpenEvidence to supporting surgeons with both the evidence and the hard-won wisdom they need to care for patients, while also recognizing that investing in the educational resources that train the next generation of surgeons is equally important,” said Ambar Mehta, MD, MPH, Director of Surgery Initiatives at OpenEvidence.

The partnership will launch with a podcast series on Behind the Knife, tackling the toughest questions at the intersection of AI and clinical practice and exploring how OpenEvidence is improving clinical decision support for surgeons.
