Alsym Energy Named One of Fast Company’s Next Big Things in Tech 2026

Alsym’s Na-Series sodium-ion cells recognized for energy innovation

MALDEN, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Alsym Energy, a developer of high-performance, non-flammable, low-cost sodium-ion battery cells, has been recognized by Fast Company as one of the Next Big Things in Tech 2026 in the Energy and Sustainability category. The award honors Alsym’s sodium-ion battery cells for advancing safe, scalable energy storage that is critical to global power grids and AI data center infrastructure.

“As batteries become increasingly critical to AI data centers, utilities, modern power grids, and industry, we need energy storage that delivers strong performance without compromising on safety, cost, or supply-chain stability,” said Mukesh Chatter, CEO of Alsym Energy. “Our sodium-ion battery cells do not enter thermal runaway while delivering best-in-class energy density, unlocking markets where energy storage cannot currently be deployed. The incredible customer traction we have received validates our approach. We’re proud that Fast Company recognized the value of our technology in transforming how the world stores and uses energy.”

Over the past year, Alsym Energy has advanced its sodium-ion cells from product launch toward commercial deployment, working with strategic manufacturing partners to scale high-volume production by 2028.

Sodium-Ion Solves Critical AI Data Center Infrastructure Challenges

Alsym’s sodium-ion cells are uniquely well-suited to AI data centers because they can manage the high-power transients that GPUs induce far better than other battery options. The same cells can serve both power and energy applications. They are also cost-effective because Alsym cells do not need active cooling, can deliver a round-trip efficiency above 97%, and reduce overall operating costs by 75% while holding a comparable CapEx. Eliminating active cooling also dramatically reduces noise and water consumption at AI data centers, and because the cells do not enter thermal runaway, these benefits address the core concerns of surrounding communities.

Fast Company’s Next Big Things in Tech recognizes innovative technologies that are making meaningful progress toward transforming the lives of consumers, businesses, and society. Alsym Energy is proud to be recognized for developing sodium-ion cells that can help make energy storage ubiquitous worldwide.

About Alsym Energy

Alsym Energy is enabling a safe, affordable energy future by rethinking battery chemistry. The company’s flagship Na-Series cells are non-flammable, high-performance, low-cost sodium-ion batteries made with earth-abundant materials.

The cells are designed using a proprietary, physics-informed AI platform that enables the discovery of materials and commercially viable chemistries 15x faster than traditional trial-and-error experiment-only methods. By combining deep-tech expertise in batteries with physics-informed AI, the platform is a closed-loop system that accelerates the entire battery development process, from ideation to manufacturing.

Alsym’s Na-Series technology eliminates thermal runaway and allows energy storage to be deployed safely for AI data centers, utilities, commercial real estate, defense, and anywhere else energy storage is needed. Its ability to operate between −40°C and 60°C avoids the need for HVAC systems for safety or performance, and fast charge and discharge rates allow multiple cycles per day, creating a powerful economic model for energy storage systems. The cells’ ability to absorb frequent GPU-induced power transients makes them uniquely suited for the next generation of AI data centers. To date, Alsym has received approximately 24 GWh in customer commitments for the Na-Series cells.
