Hitachi Application Reliability Centers Deliver 29 Percent Return on Investment Per Total Economic Impact Study

  • Study of composite organization assesses real-world value of Hitachi’s application reliability and operations platforms offering simplified design, development, and management of enterprise-based cloud workloads.
  • Current HARC clients report numerous quantifiable, un-quantifiable, and cost advantages equating to the significant return on investment of $7.6 million in total financial benefits.

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Hitachi Digital Services, the global systems integrator powering mission-critical platforms, announced results of an independent Total Economic Impact™ (TEI) study conducted by Forrester Consulting. Based on a composite organization representing interviewed customers, the study reveals that Hitachi Application Reliability Centers (HARC) generated a 29 percent return on investment with $7.6 million in total financial benefits over three years. When considering the required upfront investment, the study reports a net value of $1.7 million over the same time period with a 17-month payback period among other non-quantifiable benefits.

HARC combines the best Hitachi offers by way of managed services, cloud orchestration, system integration, AI-readiness, cybersecurity, and domain expertise in mission-critical, asset-intensive markets.

HARC houses proven Hitachi products and services used to develop, manage, and automate cloud workloads on behalf of enterprises with complex operational environments. These combined resources help accelerate innovation by migrating, modernizing, and managing such operations reliably and at scale. The result is enhanced coordination between product engineering and operations teams along with a 50 percent recapture of IT productivity hours by reducing unplanned or reactive work versus traditional approaches.

Commissioned by Hitachi, Forrester Consulting’s The Total Economic Impact™ of Hitachi Application Reliability Centers study assessed HARC’s ability to transform reactive IT management environments into intelligence-driven operations that generate value. To achieve this, Forrester examined HARC’s measurable financial and operational impact across four enterprises currently using HARC capabilities. The four HARC clients were then combined into a single composite organization that represented an asset-intensive multibillion-dollar global enterprise with approximately 10,000 employees, 25 operational sites, and 1,000 direct users impacted by HARC-enabled workflows. The composite organization deployed a mix of on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.

Notable quantifiable findings include:

  • $3.8 million in avoided downtime losses, driven by a 20% reduction in annual downtime
  • $2 million in redeployed operational capacity, driven by skilled staff’s shift from manual, repetitive initiatives to higher-value work
  • $68 thousand in recouped time and labor spent on compliance and security remediation, driven by a shift toward automated evidence collection and workflow standardization

Notable un-quantifiable findings include:

  • Greater confidence in operational reliability and risk posture
  • Improved decision-making and executive visibility
  • Reduced human error and rework
  • Higher morale and better use of skilled staff
  • Stronger governance and trust in regulated operations

Hitachi Digital Services attributes the above findings to HARC's technical architecture and the operational advancements it enables. HARC sits above existing IT, cloud, and operational systems – integrating them into a single cohesive system rather than replacing them. HARC provides a single, unified view of that interconnected system’s performance, risk, and cost that arms enterprises with simplified yet more effective control and orchestration. Collectively, these capabilities contribute to a measured shift from 40 percent reactive IT activity to 20 percent, reflecting a considerable change in how and where teams spend their time and expertise.

“The HARC TEI study is, in our opinion, a testament to Hitachi’s distinctive capabilities,” said Premkumar Balasubramanian, Chief Technology Officer, Hitachi Digital Services and GlobalLogic. “HARC combines the best Hitachi offers by way of managed services, cloud orchestration, system integration, AI-readiness, cybersecurity, and domain expertise in mission-critical, asset-intensive markets. And we put it to work to help enterprises transform into modern, intelligent organizations with reduced IT and maintenance costs and increased resilience, performance, and transparency. To be able to put a quantifiable value on Hitachi’s contribution to enterprise operations is invaluable as we move forward with supporting clients’ long-term successes.”
