DreamHost Applies to Operate .dream Top-Level Domain

DreamHost applies to run a top-level domain for the first time ahead of its 30th anniversary year

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--DreamHost®, a global leader in web hosting, Managed WordPress services, and AI-powered website and app creation, today announced that it has applied to operate as the .dream generic top-level domain (gTLD) registry.

“I’m honestly surprised .dream doesn’t exist already. It’s such a great TLD, and with DreamHost turning 30 next year, it felt like the right time for us to go after it.”

DreamHost submitted its application through ICANN’s 2026 New gTLD Program. It is the first time in the company’s history that DreamHost has applied to operate a top-level domain as a domain registry, and .dream was the only one it applied for.

DreamHost has been a domain registrar for decades, offering domain names in extensions operated by other companies. If the application is successful, DreamHost would operate .dream itself, taking responsibility for the extension and how it’s run.

“We’ve had ‘dream’ in our name from the beginning, so when we decided to apply for a top-level domain, .dream was the obvious choice,” said Dallas Kashuba, DreamHost co-founder. “I’m honestly surprised .dream doesn’t exist already. It’s such a great TLD, and with DreamHost turning 30 next year, it felt like the right time for us to go after it.”

ICANN has confirmed that 1,616 applications are moving forward in the 2026 round. On October 7, Reveal Day, ICANN will publish the proposed top-level domains, who applied for them, and public portions of the applications.

DreamHost has not yet been approved to operate .dream. Reveal Day is the start of the public phase of the process, with additional ICANN review still to come.
