Bitwarden Announces Redesigned Password Manager Interface to Simplify Everyday Use, Now Available in Beta

What: Bitwarden is launching a beta of its redesigned Password Manager interface for the Chrome browser extension and desktop apps. The redesign helps users find and organize vault items and better understand how to share them.

Key changes include:

  • Clearer navigation and ownership: A revised navigation hierarchy helps users understand where items belong and how to move between personal and shared vault content if needed.
  • Unified search and persistent filters: A single search bar finds items across personal and organization vaults, with persistent filters to narrow results.
  • More intuitive terminology: Collections becomes Shared Folders, Folders becomes My Folders, and Organization becomes Vaults, aligning labels to more directly describe how users organize and share information.

The updates affect the interface and terminology. Existing vault data, sharing permissions, and the security model remain unchanged.

Why it matters: The redesign marks the next step in a broader Bitwarden effort to make password management more intuitive and easier to adopt and use. It builds on customer research, user testing, and early community feedback. Beta participants can try the updated experience and provide feedback to inform the general release and future improvements.

When: The beta is available beginning September 30, 2026.

Where and how to participate:

Users with cloud-hosted Bitwarden accounts can opt in through separate beta installations for the Chrome browser extension and Windows and macOS desktop apps. The beta apps install separately from the production versions and use the same Bitwarden account and vault data, so no migration or separate setup is required. Users can switch between versions at any time. Bitwarden recommends only using one extension at a time, disabling the production Chrome extension during testing.
