State Grid Hosts the 2026 “China–Brazil–Chile Cloud Open Day” Event

WUHAN, China--(BUSINESS WIRE)--On September 22, State Grid Corporation of China’s 2026 “China–Brazil–Chile Cloud Open Day” was held across five locations in three countries: Zigong, China; Rio de Janeiro and Campinas, Brazil; and Santiago and Valparaíso, Chile. With lanterns telling stories of civilization and the power grid connecting the pulse of the times, the event promoted cultural exchange and mutual learning among China, Brazil and Chile, building friendship through high-quality energy and power cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.

Zhang Fanglai, a senior expert from the China Lantern Museum, traced Zigong lanterns from salt-field lamps and their Tang–Song heyday to today’s AI-powered smart lantern festivals. Wan Songtao and Wan Ling, representative inheritors of intangible cultural heritage, demonstrated unique lantern-making techniques. In an interview with two generations of “lantern guardians,” Kong Xiaolin, with 31 years of experience in lantern-festival power supply, described the evolution of power-supply methods. The new generation’s inheritance and innovation, shared by young “lantern guardian” Tao Huaxin, helped the Zigong Lantern Festival achieve 100% green electricity supply.

In Chile’s Rari Village, artisan Ana María demonstrated traditional horsehair weaving by making a craft lantern. One-man-band performer Miguel Sepúlveda Toledo combined rhythm, melody and dance. The Brazilian Mare Youth Symphony Orchestra performed “Paper Lanterns” and “China in the Lights,” evoking a homeland lit by lanterns, followed by Olodum samba drumming. The main venue and four overseas venues held lantern-painting activities, with participants painting lanterns, writing wishes and sharing creations online. About 200 people joined across all venues.

Launched in 2021, State Grid’s “Cloud Open Day” has run for six consecutive editions. Open to employees, their families, the public and media at home and abroad, it has showcased Chinese traditional culture and distinctive Brazilian and Chilean folk arts, bringing civilizations closer, deepening people-to-people ties and presenting Chinese enterprises to the world.
