NEC Announces Ohio Attorney General's Office Upgrade to Integra-ID® 7 Software-as-a-Service Biometric Platform

Next-generation SaaS deployment modernizes statewide biometric identification operations for the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation

FOLSOM, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--NEC Corporation today announced that the Ohio Attorney General's Office (AGO), through the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), is upgrading its biometric identification system to NEC's next-generation Integra-ID® 7 Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform, hosted within the Microsoft Azure Government Cloud environment.

The large-scale modernization project transitions the State of Ohio's existing on-premises Integra-ID MBIS environment to a fully managed SaaS architecture designed to simplify operations, improve scalability, and enhance long-term system performance. The upgrade project began in 2026 and is anticipated to be completed in less than nine months.

The Ohio BCI plays a critical role in supporting state and local law enforcement agencies across the State of Ohio through criminal investigations, forensic services, criminal record management, and biometric identification operations.

BCI maintains official records of convicted felons and operates Ohio's Automated Biometric Identification System (OABIS), which provides biometric information used by law enforcement agencies for criminal background checks and investigative support.

NEC previously deployed a successful AFIS replacement project for the State of Ohio in 2021 following a competitive procurement process. The modernization included replacement of both the legacy AFIS and Computerized Criminal History (CCH) systems, including the migration of tenprint, latent, palmprint, and mugshot records from the previous platform.

Today, the OABIS contains:

• More than 6 million biometric records
• Over 41 million events associated with approximately 25 million subjects
• Connectivity to nearly 600 livescan systems
• Integration with eight local AFIS systems and the FBI Next Generation Identification (NGI) system

The system supports fingerprint, palmprint, and mugshot biometric processing while leveraging any Windows 11 workstation using a secure web browser for efficient statewide access, management, monitoring, and reporting.

By upgrading to NEC Integra-ID® 7 SaaS, hosted within Microsoft Azure Government Cloud, the Ohio Attorney General's Office gains a secure, modern biometric platform aligned with the latest FBI CJIS Security Policy requirements. The SaaS environment provides enhanced resiliency, operational efficiency, secure U.S.-based data residency, and continuous access to the latest biometric innovations, software enhancements, and security updates without the disruption of traditional upgrade cycles.

The migration provides Ohio with a future-ready biometric platform that simplifies system administration while enabling continuous modernization and rapid adoption of new capabilities as they become available.
