Candidates for Governor Will Face-off October 6; Candidates for U.S. Senate on October 8

Debates Will Air Live from the Studios of WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nexstar Media Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: NXST), today announced that its television stations serving Michigan will air two exclusive live, multi‑market telecasts of debates between the candidates for Governor of Michigan and the candidates for United States Senate. Titled “Debate Week in Michigan,” the Gubernatorial debate will take place on October 6 from 7 to 8 p.m. ET, and the Senate debate on October 8 from 7 to 8 p.m. ET. Each debate will take place at the studios of WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids.

Both debates will be moderated by WOOD-TV political reporter Rick Albin, with anchor Amber Krycka facilitating questions from viewers. The debates will focus on topics most important to voters, including technology, healthcare, immigration policy, and the economy.

Participating candidates for Governor include U.S. Representative John James (Rep.) and Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson (Dem.). By law, current Governor Gretchen Whitmer cannot seek a third term.

Participating candidates to become Michigan’s next U.S. Senator include Abdul El-Sayed (Dem.), a former public health official who previously ran for Governor, and former congressman Mike Rogers (Rep.). Current U.S. Senator Gary Peters (Dem.) is retiring.

“Nexstar is proud to enable Michigan voters to continue hearing from the candidates as they each outline their positions on issues that impact their constituents,” said Andrew Alford, President of Nexstar’s broadcasting division. “Throughout the spring and summer, our local television stations in Michigan have done an outstanding job covering the candidates and the hotly contested political races taking place across the state. These debates are a clear demonstration of our commitment to keeping voters informed about the issues as they decide who to support.”

The debates will be carried live on Nexstar’s two television stations serving Michigan, WOOD TV (Grand Rapids) and WLNS (Lansing). They will also be carried on CBS Detroit (Detroit), WJRT (Flint), WWTV/ WWUP/ WFUP (Traverse City), WBUP (Marquette), and WBKB (Alpena).
