Global X Launches New ETF With Precision Focus: Building Blocks of AI Infrastructure

The Fund concentrates on multi-layer ceramic capacitors and related components

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Global X Management Company LLC (Global X), the New York-based provider of exchange-traded funds (ETFs), today announced the launch of a new fund that seeks to invest in the manufacturers of multi-layer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) and related components.

The Global X MLCC & Electronic Components ETF (ticker MLCC) has a clear focus on essential components that store energy within electronic circuits. A key building block of many modern electronic devices, MLCCs are used in artificial intelligence (AI) servers, electric vehicles, smartphones, and other items.

Roughly 85% of the global MLCCs industry is controlled by five manufacturers based in Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan; the fund is expected to have exposure to all of them.[i] Because the manufacturers’ shares are not listed in the U.S., it could be difficult for U.S. investors to access them directly.

The Fund seeks to provide investors with targeted exposure to these critical parts of the technology supply chain via a single, transparent ETF that expects to obtain such exposure primarily through equities and total return swaps.

“Our goal has always been to identify structural trends before they go mainstream,” said Global X CEO Ryan O’Connor. “We believe today’s launch represents the latest expression of that goal, along with the continued expansion of our AI product suite. With its concentrated approach, we believe MLCC could offer investors a targeted way to harness this wave of AI-driven growth.”

Global X has long been known for thematic ETFs, including innovations such as its Artificial Intelligence and Technology ETF (ticker AIQ), launched more than four years before the public release of ChatGPT. Today, its AI ecosystem has expanded to a group of nine funds that seek to provide exposure to the diverse industries impacted by the AI build-out, including infrastructure development, electrification, robotics, AI semiconductors, cybersecurity, and data centers as well as commodities like uranium, copper, and natural gas.

MLCC seeks capital appreciation. The Fund expects to invest at least 80% of its assets in MLCCs and electronic components companies.

As an actively managed fund, MLCC is designed to deliver concentrated exposure to the leading manufacturers of MLCCs and companies deriving significant revenue from the MLCCs and electronic components manufacturing vertical.

"The manufacturers of these components sit at a genuine chokepoint in the AI supply chain and could be difficult to access directly through U.S.-listed shares," said Pedro Palandrani, Head of Product Research & Development. "Our MLCC ETF is designed to give investors a targeted, actively managed way to access that part of the technology supply chain as AI demand scales."

Counterparty risk is the risk that a counterparty to a swap contract or other similar investment instrument may be unwilling or unable to make timely payments or otherwise meet its contractual obligations. A counterparty’s failure to fulfill its contractual obligations, whether due to financial insolvency or operational constraints, could result in substantial losses for the Fund or negatively impact Fund performance. In such an instance, the Fund may experience significant delays in obtaining any recovery, may obtain only a limited recovery, or may obtain no recovery at all. Even if the counterparty does not default, any perception of heightened counterparty risk could impair the liquidity and valuation of the investments held by the Fund. There may be limited counterparties available and the Fund’s reliance on a limited number of counterparties for these transactions may increase the Fund’s exposure to counterparty risk. Specifically, the Fund may have sole or substantial exposure to one counterparty, which may result in the Fund being more susceptible to concentrated counterparty risk. Further, there is a risk that no suitable counterparties will be willing to enter into, or continue to enter into, transactions with the Fund, which may cause the Fund to experience difficulty in purchasing or selling certain instruments in a timely manner. If the Fund is unable to obtain the desired exposure from counterparties, or can do so only on unfavorable terms, the Fund may not be able to achieve its investment objective, may be unable to rebalance its portfolio as intended, or may experience increased costs, any of which could result in significant losses to the Fund or negatively impact Fund performance.

The companies in which the Fund invests may be subject to rapid changes in technology, intense competition, rapid obsolescence of products and services, loss of intellectual property protections, evolving industry standards and frequent new product productions, and changes in business cycles and government regulation. MLCC is non-diversified.

International investments may involve risk of capital loss from unfavorable fluctuation in currency values. from differences in generally accepted accounting principles or from social, economic or political instability in other nations. Emerging markets involve heightened risks related to the same factors as well as increased volatility and lower trading volume.

Swap agreements are contracts among the Fund and a counterparty to exchange the return of the pre-determined underlying investment (such as the rate of return of a specified security) and may involve greater risks than direct investment in securities. Risks associated with the use of swap agreements are different from those associated with ordinary portfolio securities transactions, due in part to the fact they could be considered illiquid, and many swaps trade on the OTC market. It may not be possible for the Fund to liquidate a swap position at an advantageous time or price, which may result in significant losses. Swaps are subject to counterparty credit, correlation, valuation, liquidity and leveraging risks.

There can be no guarantee that the Fund's active management strategies and processes will be successful.

Shares of ETFs are bought and sold at market price (not NAV) and are not individually redeemed from the Fund. Brokerage commissions will reduce returns.

Carefully consider the Fund's investment objectives, risks, and charges and expenses before investing. This and other information can be found in the Fund's summary or full prospectuses, which may be obtained at https://www.globalxetfs.com/funds/MLCC#documents. Please read the prospectus carefully before Investing.
