LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--WaterTower Music today announces the release of the Practical Magic 2 (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), available now on all major digital streaming platforms. The album features original score by award-winning composer Rupert Gregson-Williams and includes three new songs from Bleachers, Brandi Carlile and Aldae. Reuniting after The Perfect Couple, director Susanne Bier turned again to Gregson-Williams to score the return to this beloved world. "His music has so much heart, but he's also quite versatile, and this score needed to have both," says Bier. "It needed to be huge at times, but also very intimate. I love the score. I think it's gorgeous."

For Gregson-Williams, the collaboration was a chance to go deeper. "Susanne and I have worked together once before, and it's an extremely important relationship for me. She has an instinct to push me in directions I wouldn't naturally feel comfortable in! It can produce some interesting results," he says. "She let me push into the emotional side of the story, and she encouraged the use of voices and bringing extra darkness when necessary."

At the heart of the score is sisterhood, the thread that binds both films. "We have an enormous fan base for the original movie, so it was important to use the main theme from that film," Gregson-Williams explains. "I teased the original theme at the very beginning to bring us into the world but held back playing it in all its glory until the very end, bringing us full circle. Sisterhood is the most important element in both films." He also wrote a new sisterhood theme to connect the story's three generations: "The melody has a timeless feel, a spiritual and emotional melody." The film's natural humor, especially between Sally and Gillian, needed little support. "It spoke for itself beautifully."

Voices became the score's guiding spirit. "I use female solo vocals to represent the ancient ancestral voices who help guide the family," says Gregson-Williams. "I could twist them to represent the left-handed magic and play melodies with them to signify the sisterhood power. The score starts with the vocals and ends with them: it is the ancestral magic guiding the sisterhood."

Producer Denise Di Novi points to the emotional core Gregson-Williams preserved: "He maintained the whimsy, magic and emotional core in his music—you can hear the heart and feel the otherworldliness of these magical lives. It's a big, lush cinematic score."

The soundtrack also features original songs from a remarkable lineup of artists, including Bleachers, Brandi Carlile and Aldae.

"It was an absolute joy to get together as a band and make a song for this soundtrack," says Jack Antonoff of Bleachers. "Practical Magic is such a beloved story. I'm so glad the world gets a part two, and that Bleachers gets to play a small part in it."

Brandi Carlile explains, "I got a FaceTime from an unknown number and it turned out to be Sandra Bullock asking me to be a part of this soundtrack. She introduced me to a song by Billy Joel that I had never heard before and I loved it so much, it instantly became a part of me. It’s such an honor to have gotten to do it for this film."

For star Sandra Bullock—who served as executive producer of the soundtrack, as she did on the first film—the music was its own kind of storytelling. "You have visual storytelling, and then there's musical storytelling. It was so much fun sitting in a room with a music editor and all these great artists who wanted to be with us on this journey," she says. "I was really excited for us to bring another soundtrack to life. To have music that makes you feel something, or a song attached to a memory, where you go, 'Oh, my God, I want to relive that moment!'"

ABOUT RUPERT GREGSON-WILLIAMS

Rupert Gregson-Williams most recently wrote the original score for Practical Magic 2, starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman and directed by Susanne Bier, which Warner Bros. releases in North American theaters on September 10, 2026, and internationally beginning September 9, 2026.

An acclaimed composer working from studios in London and Los Angeles, Gregson-Williams moves across genre and tone, and his range has repeatedly been recognized: an Emmy nomination for the prestige drama series The Crown, the European Film Award for Hotel Rwanda, an Annie Award nomination for the animated Bee Movie, and the Reims International Composer Award for the independent film Love + Hate. That same versatility carries through the rest of his catalogue, from the Oscar-winning war epic Hacksaw Ridge to the broad comedy of Happy Gilmore 2 to the small-screen mystery of A Perfect Couple, and the 2024 Amazon film Brothers, starring Josh Brolin and Peter Dinklage.

He and his brother, composer Harry Gregson-Williams, write the score for the drama series The Gilded Age, which debuted on HBO in January 2022 and is now filming its fourth season for a Fall 2026 premiere, and previously collaborated on the miniseries Catch-22.

Gregson-Williams scored Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, starring Jason Momoa, Patrick Wilson, Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Nicole Kidman, directed by James Wan and released December 2023, following his work on the original Aquaman, released December 2018 and the highest-grossing DC film of all time.
