Fujifilm and ASGE Advance Partnership with Next-Generation Endoscopic Technology Upgrade at the Institute for Training and Technology

Approximately 2,500 physicians and fellows annually will receive hands-on training with the latest innovations in endoscopy at ASGE's premier education center

LEXINGTON, Mass. & CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--FUJIFILM Healthcare Americas Corporation, a leading provider of endoscopic and endosurgical innovations, and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), the global leader of advancement and education in the field of gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy, announce that ASGE has equipped its Chicago-based Institute for Training and Technology (IT&T) Advanced Bioskills Laboratory and Simulation Center with Fujifilm’s latest endoscopic imaging technologies, further strengthening the organizations’ longstanding partnership to advance physician education and improve patient care.

The technology upgrade equips the IT&T Center with the ELUXEO^® 8000 Endoscopic Imaging System and Fujifilm’s latest 800 Series gastroscopes and colonoscopes, replacing the previous-generation 700 Series systems that have supported hands-on physician education at the Institute for several years. The suite of comprehensive endoscopy solutions was installed this summer and will be utilized throughout ASGE’s hands-on training programs for fellows as well as practicing endoscopists.

The IT&T Center features the latest generations of Fujifilm endoscopes spanning a wide range of gastroscopes and colonoscopes, as well as specialized duodenoscopes, ultrasound endoscopes, and dual-channel endoscopes. When used with the latest ELUXEO Endoscopic Imaging System, a smartly designed single-unit processor and light source, ASGE faculty and Fujifilm staff can demonstrate a wide variety of procedures and techniques, including interventional procedures like Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), routine upper and lower endoscopies, as well as endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), third space endoscopy, and bariatric endoscopy.

The ELUXEO 8000 Endoscopic Imaging System leverages Fujifilm’s LED Multi-Light illumination technology, which enables high-quality White Light images displayed in 4K resolution, as well as three imaging modes: Linked Color Imaging (LCI^®), Blue Light Imaging (BLI^®), and Fujifilm’s newly developed Amber-Red Color Imaging (ACI^®), which gastroenterologists can easily toggle between in real-time to aid in diagnosis and clinical decision-making. Fujifilm’s LCI and BLI light modes enable enhanced polyp detection and characterization capabilities. Fujifilm’s ACI was designed to support detection of bleeding sources and enhance noninvasive third-space endoscopy treatment with its potential to improve visualization of blood vessels in the submucosal space. The system has demonstrated the clinical versatility required for training at ASGE. Data on the system supports applications across a variety of different disease states, most commonly: colorectal polyp detection, endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), H. pylori assessment, Barretts esophagus, GERD detection, and more.

Clinical data shows LCI helps to differentiate mucosal colors by enhancing the contrast of red and white hues, which can improve the detection of early cancers as well as improve the adenoma detection rate. BLI outputs a high intensity ratio of blue-violet light aiding in high contrast imaging of microvessels, helping to characterize findings, and to potentially diagnose early gastric cancer accurately.
