UCL Swift Launches SWIFT NID with Standard and Quick Reel Configurations

Available in Standard and Quick Reel configurations, the SWIFT NID provides a flexible demarcation solution for residential and small-office fiber deployments

CARROLLTON, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--UCL Swift today announced the SWIFT NID, a wall-mounted network interface device (NID) designed to simplify fiber installation at residential and small-office/home-office (SOHO) locations while providing a clearly defined demarcation point between the service provider network and customer premises equipment (CPE).

The SWIFT NID is available in two configurations: Standard and Quick Reel, giving network operators flexibility to select the installation approach best suited to their deployment.

The Standard configuration provides a traditional splice-based NID solution, while the Quick Reel configuration incorporates an integrated one-touch reel system for managing preinstalled fiber patch cord. The Quick Reel design allows technicians to pay out the required amount of fiber while keeping excess fiber securely managed inside the enclosure.

The Quick Reel features 360-degree cable payout and a secure locking mechanism and is available with 50-, 100- and 150-foot patch cord options.

“The SWIFT NID gives operators the flexibility to choose the configuration that best fits the installation,” said Steve Harris, VP Sales and Marketing. “Whether the application calls for a traditional splice configuration or the speed and cable-management advantages of the Quick Reel, the goal is the same: make fiber installation at the customer premises simpler, cleaner and more efficient.”

The SWIFT NID supports Simplex SC/APC or Simplex SC/UPC optical interfaces and accommodates multiple common drop-cable sizes through expandable grommet options, including 6–8 mm round cable, 8.1 × 4.5 mm flat drop cable and 3–5 mm round cable.

Designed for demanding deployment environments, the enclosure is constructed from UV-stabilized, flame-retardant thermoplastic, operates from -40°C to 80°C (-40°F to 176°F) and carries an IP64 rating. The SWIFT NID is also Telcordia GR-771 qualified.

The Standard configuration weighs approximately 1.61 pounds, while the Quick Reel configuration with a 50-foot patch cord weighs approximately 2.36 pounds.

Certain functional design features of the SWIFT NID are patent pending.
