Notability Brings Fully Native, AI-Assisted Note-taking To Android
Handwriting recognition, AI-generated notes and transcriptions come to the Google Play Store
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Ginger Labs, Inc., the developer behind Notability, the award-winning note-taking app, today launched its application on the Android platform in the Google Play Store. The launch makes the leading note-taking software available for download to millions of additional users worldwide.
Expanding Notability to Android illustrates the company’s commitment to making Notability available to students, working professionals, creative professionals and businesses across all device types.
“Notability for Android has been one of our most requested features, and we didn't want to just port the app over,” said Notability Chief Product Officer Marc Provost. “We wanted to build something that feels native to Android from the ground up. This is the start of a much bigger chapter for Notability.”
For this launch, Notability listened to Android beta testers’ feedback to incorporate features, including the S pen button for eraser support, added paper templates and backgrounds, intra-document links to PDFs and the ability to export notes for email and printing.
Users of the Notability Android app can capture ideas, study more effectively and stay organized in a note-taking app that is fully native to Android rather than wrapped in a web browser. The app includes the high-performance note-taking experience that has made Notability a global favorite, but with certain features that are currently exclusive to Android. Specifically, the Android app launches with a set of expressive pen styles, including rainbow and glitter ink, that turn handwriting and sketching into something playful.
The app includes smooth and rich ink with shape and handwriting recognition, audio recording and transcription, document import, as well as support for full mouse, keyboard and stylus. The app also features support for Android note shortcuts, allowing users to take quick notes directly from their lock screens. Users can also collaborate with team members from any device, with their notes and edits syncing across devices in real time.
"We are thrilled to welcome Notability to the Android ecosystem with an experience that is native, premium, and incredibly smart,” said John Maletis, vice president of product, engineering and UX for laptops and tablets at Google. “By fully leveraging the latest Android capabilities, the team delivers fluid, low-latency handwriting with helpful AI features that shine on mobile and larger screens."
AI that summarizes notes and transcriptions
Some AI in note-taking apps feels tacked on rather than native, but not Notability on Android.
Notability Learn, a groundbreaking suite of AI tools embedded into the app, generates quizzes, flashcards, and notes that students capture. Android users can get instant live transcription from audio recordings and query their notes to get instant in-depth explanations. Exporting and sharing notes, downloading over 20,000 free note templates from the Notability Gallery, and syncing across multiple Android and non-Android devices is also available for users.
Subscriptions and one-time purchase plans are now available in the Google Play Store or on notability.com.
“We tuned Notability’s Android ink pipeline for speed you can feel, matching the performance and reliability our users expect,” said Ryan Shea, Android engineering manager at Notability. “Using predictive touch and Android’s low-latency drawing path, the ink appears right under the stylus with minimal lag, so writing feels as natural and immediate as pen on paper.”
