Arbor Day Foundation Launches Fall Membership Drive Offering 10 Free Trees to Those Who Join

Limited-time offer helps Americans plant trees during one of the best times of year

LINCOLN, Neb.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Arbor Day Foundation is inviting people across the country to make a lasting impact where they live through its annual fall membership drive, offering 10 free trees with every new membership and helping people discover that fall is one of the best times of year to plant.

While spring is often seen as peak planting season, experts say fall provides ideal conditions for young trees to establish strong root systems before winter dormancy, which can set them up for healthier growth in the spring.

The opportunity comes at a time when Americans overwhelmingly recognize the value of trees in their communities, but far fewer are taking the step to plant them. Research from the Foundation’s Canopy Report shows that most Americans want to live in neighborhoods with more trees, yet only a minority report having planted a tree in the past year.

The Arbor Day Foundation aims to close that gap by making it simple, accessible, and rewarding for people to take action.

“People understand how important trees are for their communities, their health, and the environment. Many people just need a simple way to get started,” said Dan Lambe, chief executive of the Arbor Day Foundation. “Our fall membership drive puts trees directly into people’s hands and gives them the confidence to plant trees successfully.”

New members who join during the campaign will receive 10 trees suited to their region, along with clear planting guidance and ongoing support to ensure their trees thrive. New members can also choose to have the Foundation send their 10 trees to a forest in need if they’d prefer not to receive trees for their yard. The Foundation’s approach is designed to help everyone see how their small act of planting in their yard or supporting a planting in a forest can add up to a collective good that benefits everyone.

The Arbor Day Foundation expects that more than 2 million new trees will be planted across the United States this fall as part of the membership drive. For decades, Arbor Day Foundation membership drives have helped grow greener communities across the country. Today, the Arbor Day Foundation has engaged tree planters in more than 90% of U.S. neighborhoods.
