Harbert Realty Services Acquired – Now Operating as Harris Tynes Commercial Real Estate
Independent ownership restores the Harris Tynes name and supports continued growth in Alabama and the Southeast
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--West Harris and Norman Tynes have acquired Harbert Realty Services, one of the leading full-service commercial real estate firms in the region. The company will now operate as Harris Tynes Commercial Real Estate. Headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, the firm will continue serving the Southeast and beyond.
Harris and Tynes founded Harris Tynes Realty Group in Birmingham in 2005. Harbert Realty Services acquired the company in November 2013, combining two established Birmingham commercial real estate firms and creating one of the largest privately held real estate organizations in the Southeast. The 2026 acquisition returns the company to independent ownership and restores the founders’ original Harris Tynes brand. The new website and branding will be introduced over the coming weeks.
The company will operate as an independent, broker-led organization while maintaining its existing offices, service teams and client relationships. The firm will continue providing brokerage, leasing and property management services across the office, retail, multifamily, industrial and medical sectors.
“Acquiring this firm and restoring the Harris Tynes name is a full-circle moment, and we could not be more excited about what comes next,” said Norman Tynes, CEO of Harris Tynes Commercial Real Estate. “Independent ownership gives us full decision-making authority and the opportunity to shape the company’s future. Most of all, it lets us build the firm around what we know best: serving institutional and private property owners and investors with experience, responsiveness and a long-term perspective.”
The founder-led structure places strategic and operating decisions with executives who have spent more than two decades managing, leasing and selling commercial property. That experience extends across the company’s brokerage, underwriting, accounting and property management functions, giving its owners direct knowledge of the work performed throughout the organization.
“Returning to independent ownership marks a true evolution for our firm and creates an opportunity to make our services more streamlined and proactive for clients,” said West Harris, president of Harris Tynes Commercial Real Estate. “We have managed, leased and sold properties throughout our careers, so we understand the work from every side of the business. Our team brings decades of expertise across brokerage, leasing and property management, offering clients the depth of a larger platform with the agility of an independent firm. That combination gives us room to grow without losing the direct, senior-level attention our clients count on.”
The firm’s growth strategy focuses on expanding services and adding professionals in existing and key growth markets. Across the organization, leadership will continue recruiting experienced commercial real estate professionals and training practitioners entering the field.
Client relationships, service teams and office locations will remain unchanged. Day-to-day brokerage, leasing and property management services will continue without interruption.
