Fariba Goodarzian, MD, Named Radiologist-in-Chief at Children's Hospital Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Children’s Hospital Los Angeles has named Fariba Goodarzian, MD, Radiologist-in-Chief and Chair of Radiology and Imaging, effective Aug. 1. Dr. Goodarzian will also hold the John L. Gwinn, MD, Chair in Radiology.

As Radiologist-in-Chief and Chair, Dr. Goodarzian will oversee the hospital’s full range of radiology and imaging services, including computed tomography, diagnostic radiology, interventional radiology, magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear medicine, positron emission tomography and ultrasound. She will partner with clinical and administrative leaders to advance care delivery, quality improvement, faculty development, research, education and interdisciplinary collaboration across the enterprise. Dr. Goodarzian also serves as Professor of Radiology at the Keck School of Medicine of USC.

Dr. Goodarzian has been part of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles for more than 25 years, beginning with fellowships in pediatric radiology and pediatric neuroradiology and an internship in pediatrics. Since joining CHLA, she has served in several leadership roles, including Vice Chair of Radiology, Director of Radiology Quality Assurance, Director of MRI and Director of Nuclear Medicine.

Throughout her tenure, Dr. Goodarzian has focused on quality, safety, operational efficiency and responsible resource stewardship. She has partnered with multidisciplinary teams to identify system gaps, reduce variation, prevent delays and improve care. She has also mentored generations of residents, fellows and junior faculty at CHLA.

Board-certified in diagnostic radiology with Certificate of Added Qualification in pediatric radiology, Dr. Goodarzian’s academic work spans pediatric imaging, nuclear medicine and pediatric oncology research, including neuroblastoma and soft tissue sarcoma. She has contributed to peer-reviewed publications and multicenter studies and serves as a co-investigator on research supported by the National Cancer Institute and the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.

Dr. Goodarzian earned her medical degree from Urmia University of Medical Sciences in Iran, completed a diagnostic radiology residency at the University of Tehran and completed a visiting fellowship in pediatric radiology at the University of California, San Francisco, followed by fellowships in Pediatric Radiology and Pediatric Neuroradiology at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. She is an active member of the Radiological Society of North America, the Society for Pediatric Radiology and the American College of Radiology, and the Society of Chiefs of Radiology at Children’s Hospitals.
