Homer City Generation Hosts Indiana University of Pennsylvania Leadership, Faculty and Staff for Homer City Energy Campus Tour

Visit advances collaboration to explore research, workforce development, experiential learning and innovation opportunities that connect students and faculty with one of Pennsylvania's most transformative projects

INDIANA COUNTY, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Homer City Generation, L.P., welcomed academic leadership, faculty and staff from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (“IUP”) to the Homer City Energy Campus on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, for a guided site tour showcasing the ongoing transformation of the former Homer City Generating Station into one of the nation's largest natural gas-powered energy facilities. The visit provided IUP attendees with a firsthand look at construction progress over the past year while also exploring opportunities for long-term collaboration that will support academic innovation, workforce development and regional economic growth.

The visit builds upon Homer City Generation's commitment to partnering with local educational institutions to help prepare the next generation of talent that will power America's energy future. As the Homer City Energy Campus advances, Homer City Generation and IUP intend to continue exploring ways to connect the project with the university’s academic mission, including potential opportunities for student learning, faculty engagement, workforce development and related industry collaboration.

During the visit, representatives from Homer City Generation led the IUP delegation on a guided bus tour highlighting major project milestones, including the early completion of demolition and excavation and the commencement of vertical construction with the Gas-Insulated Switchgear (GIS) building marking the first structure to rise from the site. Participants also attended an educational session with representatives from both Homer City Generation and Kiewit Power Constructors Co. where they had the opportunity to learn more about the overall redevelopment vision, project timeline and anticipated economic impact on the region.
