The grants help businesses offset costs associated with employees taking Paid Family Leave, including cross-training current staff and hiring and training new or temporary employees to maintain operations during an employee’s absence.

California’s Paid Family Leave program provides eligible employees with up to eight weeks of wage-replacement benefits for qualifying reasons, including bonding with a new child or caring for a seriously ill family member.

Businesses with 1–100 employees may qualify if at least one employee used California Paid Family Leave on or after June 30, 2026.

To qualify for the grant, businesses must:

  • Be registered to do business in California
  • Be in active status with the California Secretary of State
  • Have an active California Employer Account Number under which employees are listed for payroll

Employers interested in applying for the grant can do so by visiting the official grant website at Californiapfl.com.
