ChristianaCare Advances Epic Electronic Health Record Implementation Ahead of October 3, 2026 Go-Live
Training, readiness and new patient-facing tools support a safer, more connected care experience
WILMINGTON, Del.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ChristianaCare is transforming its approach to healthcare delivery by implementing Epic, one of the nation’s most widely used electronic health record (EHR) platforms, by bringing clinical information, care team workflows and patient-facing tools into a more connected digital environment. Epic supports safer, more coordinated care by making information easier to access across settings, reducing duplication and strengthening continuity. For patients, Epic’s secure online patient portal, MyChart makes it easier to view health information, communicate with care teams, manage appointments and receive care when and where they need it.
With less than three months remaining until go-live, ChristianaCare is advancing the final stage of its Epic implementation, scheduled to launch on October 3, 2026. The work brings together caregiver training and operational readiness.

With less than three months remaining until go-live, ChristianaCare is advancing the final stage of its Epic implementation, scheduled to launch on October 3, 2026. The work brings together caregiver training, operational readiness and new patient-facing digital tools to support safe, coordinated care during the transition and beyond.
“As we move into the final months before go-live, our focus is on preparing our caregivers through a training model that combines convenient on-demand learning with live, role-based instruction,” said Ric Cuming, Ed.D., MSN, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN, chief operating officer at ChristianaCare. “We are taking a deliberate approach to help protect patient safety and maintain continuity of care, including readiness checks designed to ensure caregivers complete required training before they use the new system.”
In the weeks ahead, ChristianaCare will continue working closely with clinical teams, staff and community partners on role-based training, practice scenarios, workflow validation and go-live support. This readiness work is designed to help caregivers use the new system confidently while minimizing time away from patients.
For patients, those preparations will support a transition to ChristianaCare MyChart, which will provide secure online access to items such as test results and visit summaries, appointment scheduling and care team messaging. MyChart also supports convenient services such as eCheck-in, prescription refill requests and online bill pay, helping patients manage many health care tasks from a phone, tablet or computer.
Together, the training and patient-facing tools reflect the same goal: helping caregivers have the information they need and helping patients stay more connected to their care.
What to Expect
As go-live approaches, patients should continue to keep appointments as scheduled unless contacted directly by ChristianaCare with any updates. Behind the scenes, the move to Epic is designed to make care more connected when patients need services outside their usual ChristianaCare setting.
With Epic’s Care Everywhere feature, participating providers can securely access and share relevant health information across Epic health systems when patients receive care away from home. When ChristianaCare is live on Epic, all Delaware health systems—and many more regionally across Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland—will be on Epic as well, making it even easier for patients to receive care across the region with their information available to support timely, coordinated treatment.
