The Emily Program Advances Integrated Eating Disorder Care with On-Site Spravato Treatment

Durham residential eating disorder treatment center stands apart with rare on-site Spravato care

DURHAM, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Emily Program, a national leader in eating disorder specialty care and behavioral health services, today announced it is offering on-site Spravato® (esketamine) nasal spray treatment at its adult inpatient and residential treatment center in Durham, North Carolina. The program is among a limited number of eating disorder treatment programs nationwide to administer the therapy on-site for eligible adults with co-occurring treatment-resistant depression (TRD) or major depressive disorder (MDD) with acute suicidal thoughts or behaviors.

Previously, residents who qualified for Spravato had to leave the facility to receive treatment, interrupting the continuity of their eating disorder care. Delivering the therapy on-site allows eligible patients to remain fully engaged in treatment while receiving coordinated care for co-occurring depression.

“Many people receiving treatment for an eating disorder also experience co-occurring depression, and addressing both conditions at the same time is essential to recovery,” said Joe Crozier, M.D., Regional Medical Director for The Emily Program. “We’re pleased to offer Spravato on-site, so eligible patients can receive the treatment they need while remaining fully engaged in their eating disorder care. Unlike traditional antidepressants, which can take weeks to have an effect, Spravato is notable because it may provide meaningful relief from depressive symptoms within 24 to 48 hours for some patients.”

The Emily Program’s adult inpatient and residential treatment center in Durham provides 24-hour care for adults of all genders experiencing eating disorders. It combines medical monitoring, psychiatric care, nutrition therapy, individual and group psychotherapy, and other evidence-based interventions to support lasting recovery. The program serves patients from across the country who seek specialized eating disorder treatment.

“Offering Spravato on-site reflects our commitment to meeting the complex needs of the patients we serve and providing comprehensive evidence-based care,” said Becca Eckstein, Executive Director of The Emily Program – Douglas. “By integrating this treatment into our inpatient and residential programs, we can reduce interruptions to care while enabling our multidisciplinary team to support eligible patients with both their eating disorder and co-occurring depression.”
