Smith Currie Oles Deepens Government Contracts Practice, Adding Washington, DC-based Partner James Dougherty

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Smith Currie Oles LLP is pleased to announce that James C. “Jim” Dougherty has joined the firm as a partner in its Government Contracts practice. Based in Washington, DC, he comes to Smith Currie Oles from an Am Law 100 firm, where he advised federal contractors across the IT services, software, and defense sectors. Specifically, Dougherty’s representation of leading contractors involved major civilian and defense agencies, and included disputes, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and small business compliance, False Claims Act, and claims and protest litigation. Prior to returning to private practice, Dougherty held senior in-house roles with Cisco Systems and Intel and served as the general counsel of several public sector technology companies.

“Jim brings outstanding experience with complex federal procurement matters, and will deepen our strength in bid protests, contract negotiations, compliance counseling, and disputes involving mission‑critical technologies,” said Tom Krider, managing partner of Smith Currie Oles. “His arrival reflects our continued investment in growing our premier Government Contracts practice, and we are pleased to welcome him to the firm.”

Dougherty’s experience spans both established and emerging federal contractors across all industries, supporting them throughout the full lifecycle of government contracting. He has strength helping clients address the challenges facing emerging technology companies, enterprise software providers, and defense contractors navigating high‑stakes federal programs.

“Smith Currie Oles’ Government Contracts practice has a depth and focus that’s rare in this market, and the firm truly understands the industries where my clients operate,” Dougherty said. “Federal contractors, and technology and defense companies in particular, are navigating an increasingly demanding procurement and compliance environment, and the firm’s specialized platform gives me every tool to help them meet their challenges.”
