Lyft and Curb Expand Partnership to New York City, the Nation's Largest Taxi Market

Building on previous deployments in L.A. and San Francisco, thousands of cab drivers on the Curb network will gain access to millions of Lyft riders in the city

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Lyft (NASDAQ: LYFT) and Curb, the leading ride-hailing platform for licensed taxis, today announced the expansion of their strategic partnership to New York City, the largest taxi market in the United States. Eligible Lyft riders in New York City can now be matched with a licensed taxi through Curb Flow, Curb’s open API that aggregates ride demand into a single network, directly through the Lyft app they already use.

“This expansion connects a well-established community of professional drivers to millions of Lyft riders, making it easier for New Yorkers to get where they’re going.” - Jeremy Bird, EVP of Global Growth at Lyft.

The New York City expansion follows launches in Los Angeles and San Francisco, and marks the first time Lyft riders in New York City will have access to licensed taxis through the Lyft app. With Curb's network of thousands of taxis in the city, the expansion represents Lyft’s largest deployment of the Curb integration and a meaningful new earning opportunity for New York City's taxi drivers.

Riders who request a Standard, Priority Pickup, or Wait & Save ride through the Lyft app may be matched with a licensed taxi when one is nearby. Lyft riders who prefer not to be matched with a taxi can update their preference in the app. All rides maintain the same Lyft experience riders expect: upfront pricing, driver and vehicle information, in-app safety features, and the ability to tip and rate their driver.

“Taxis are iconic within New York City, and we’re proud to bring the Lyft experience to cab riders and drivers here for the first time,” said Jeremy Bird, EVP of Global Growth at Lyft. “This expansion connects a well-established community of professional drivers to millions of Lyft riders, making it easier for New Yorkers to get where they’re going.”

Lyft’s full suite of safety and rider features, including real-time location sharing, in-app chat, Smart Trip Check-In, and emergency assistance, will be available on all taxi rides. Taxi drivers in the Curb network are subject to the same high service standards as all drivers on the Lyft platform.

“New York City is the heart of the taxi industry in America, and this expansion with Lyft reflects our shared commitment to putting drivers first and giving riders a better experience,” said Dorel Tamam, Vice President, Mobile Business Unit at Curb. “Curb Flow was built to unify the fragmented ride-hailing experience, and bringing Lyft into that network in New York City is a major milestone for drivers and riders alike.”

The New York City expansion reflects Lyft’s strategy of expanding transportation options for riders through partnerships with established, licensed operators.
