Counterpart Expands into Insurance Agents, Accountants, and Real Estate Professional Liability Insurance and Launches Excess Coverage Across All Lines

Expansion of professional liability team, product offering, excess capabilities, and affirmative AI coverage continues on the heels of its $50M series C announced earlier this year

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Counterpart, the first Agentic Insurance™ platform for management and professional liability, today announced three expansions to its Professional Liability (PL) product: new appetite for insurance agents and brokers, accountants, and real estate agents; excess coverage across its full professional liability suite; and affirmative AI coverage available on every PL policy. The additions build on a PL product suite that now spans Miscellaneous Professional Liability, Allied Health, and Architects & Engineers, which contributed to Counterpart’s nearly 2x premium growth year-over-year. Most PL products can also be bundled with General Liability (GL) coverage.

In addition to the new appetite, excess coverage is now available across Counterpart’s full PL and ML suite, extending into coverage areas that standard excess towers often exclude, including abuse and molestation and bodily injury. For brokers building coverage programs for small business clients, having excess capacity that follows the same form and terms as the underlying policy simplifies placement and reduces the friction that comes with sourcing excess from a separate market.

Counterpart introduced affirmative AI coverage in 2024 and is expanding that same coverage as, now, two years later, the broader industry still works to establish their position on AI. According to Counterpart's 2025 Small Business Insights Report, 92% of small businesses now use AI in day-to-day operations, up from 20% in 2023. Most professional liability policies either exclude AI-related work or leave coverage treatment unclear. Counterpart's endorsement removes the ambiguity, explicitly stating that coverage applies to AI-assisted professional services work.

“Counterpart stays ahead of trends with the people and systems in place to better serve our brokers and their clients. Affirmative AI coverage is one example of how we move faster by connecting underwriting, distribution, risk mitigation, and claims into a single intelligence layer. While the rest of the market has spent 18 months trying to figure out where they stand on AI, we’ve launched four new PL products that include our affirmative AI coverage,” said Michael Muglia, Professional Liability Lead at Counterpart. “The coverage is available on every PL form and carries forward onto each new product as we continue to expand our PL products.”

The pace of that expansion is matched by the team behind it. Ben French, the company’s new Professional Liability Field Leader, recently joined Counterpart bringing almost 20 years of professional liability experience. He spent nearly 15 years at Hiscox USA and four years at Convex Insurance before joining Counterpart. His arrival adds to a team that has grown alongside the product suite itself.

“Counterpart's enhanced PL product fills a gap brokers have been navigating for years,” said McGowan Financial Lines Director Dan Lazarz. “Leveraging GL capabilities built on ISO forms and endorsements, it aligns with real-world placements. Integrating a broader appetite, more classes can be underwritten without sacrificing the discipline Counterpart is known for. Tailored via a modular form, the product lets brokers assemble only what the client needs. Operationally, it shortens the path from submission to bind with clean, predictable terms. Simply put, it turns a long-standing market gap into an efficient solution.”
