AIB International Releases 2027 Consolidated Standards to Help Advance Food Safety Across the Global Food Supply Chain

Updated Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) framework supports food manufacturers in strengthening operational excellence, inspection readiness, and food safety practices across the industry.

MANHATTAN, Kan.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--AIB International, global leader in inspections, auditing, training, and consulting, announced the release of the 2027 Consolidated Standards for Inspection, the latest edition of its Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) framework designed to help food, beverage, packaging, distribution, and ingredient facilities strengthen food safety programs and prepare for inspections beginning January 1, 2027.

Trusted by the food industry since 1956, the AIB International Consolidated Standards continue to help organizations strengthen food safety, mitigate risk, and prepare for tomorrow's challenges.

Used by organizations throughout the global food supply chain, the AIB International Consolidated Standards provide a practical framework for implementing Good Manufacturing Practices, supporting operational excellence, and promoting consistent food safety practices that strengthen the food supply chain and help protect consumers.

First introduced in 1956, the AIB International Consolidated Standards have evolved alongside the food industry, reflecting changes in regulations, scientific knowledge, emerging technologies, and industry best practices. The 2027 edition continues that legacy by providing practical, operations-focused guidance that helps organizations continuously strengthen their food safety programs and prepare for today's evolving challenges.

The 2027 release includes updated editions of all six AIB International Consolidated Standards, covering Prerequisite & Food Safety Programs, Beverage, Distribution Centers, Food Contact Packaging, Non-Food Contact Packaging, and Grain Handling.

"Food safety doesn't end with a successful inspection—it begins with the daily practices that protect products, brands, and ultimately consumers," said Aaron Edwards, President & CEO of AIB International. "For 70 years, the Consolidated Standards have helped elevate food safety across the global food supply chain. The 2027 edition builds on that legacy by helping organizations anticipate risk, strengthen their operations, adapt to evolving industry expectations, and protect consumer trust."

While the core GMP expectations remain consistent, the 2027 edition introduces clearer language, improved organization, updated terminology, and new requirements that reflect current regulations, evolving industry practices, and emerging technologies, making the standards easier to understand and apply across facility operations.

The digital edition of the 2027 Consolidated Standards and the accompanying English and Spanish Change Documents became available on July 13, 2026, giving organizations the remainder of the year to prepare before inspections under the new edition begin on January 1, 2027.

AIB International encourages organizations to use the remainder of 2026 to review the updated requirements, train personnel, update documentation, and conduct internal transition audits ahead of the effective date.

"Every revision of the Consolidated Standards is an opportunity to strengthen food safety practices and improve consistency across facilities," said Bonnie Biegel, Quality Assurance Director, AIB International. "The 2027 edition provides clearer guidance, while the mid-year release gives organizations time to prepare for implementation in January 2027. Our training and implementation resources are designed to support a smooth transition."

To support implementation, AIB International has launched the 2027 Consolidated Standards Resource Center, where organizations can access awareness training, technical consulting, change documents, implementation guidance, and other practical resources. New content will be added throughout 2026.
