Ameris Bank Donates $10,000 to Lifecycle Building Center
ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--To support an environmentally-conscious brick reuse program in metro Atlanta, Ameris Bank is proud to donate $10,000 to Lifecycle Building Center (LBC), a material reuse nonprofit. The funds will be applied to the organization’s Brick to Brick program, which recovers vintage brick from demolition and renovation projects, removes the mortar, and offers affordable salvaged brick for construction reuse in the community.
LBC delivers its mission of strengthening communities through building material reuse by saving usable materials such as cabinets, doors, windows, flooring, hardware, furnishings, electrical and plumbing fixtures, lighting, and more from disposal, donating them to hundreds of other charities and offering them at deep discounts through LBC’s Reuse Center in SW Atlanta.
“We are proud to be a leading sponsor in the Brick to Brick fundraising campaign for Lifecycle Building Center to enable facility improvements and the purchase of needed brick cleaning equipment,” said Carl Insel, Ameris Bank Atlanta market president. “This will be the first large-scale brick reuse operation in the U.S., reducing landfill use and making quality, affordable brick available for worthwhile community construction projects.”
Shannon Goodman, LBC co-founder and director, said: “Our Reuse Center offers reclaimed construction materials primarily to residents from underinvested communities and nonprofits. Since 2011, we have redirected 14 million pounds of usable materials away from landfills and into our local community, generating $7 million in community savings, including our donation of free materials to over 450 nonprofits. The donation from Ameris Bank will help us buy much needed equipment to launch our new brick reuse initiative, creating new workforce training opportunities and the ability to repurpose twice the amount of material we can today.”
One example of the economically viable program to salvage, recondition and reuse bricks is the Oakland Exchange project immediately north of LBC, which is transforming the 100-year-old Cut Rate Box warehouses along the Atlanta Beltline’s Westside Trail into a multifaceted destination for residential, office and retail use. In partnership with Choate Construction, LBC saved historic bricks removed during the renovation and can now make them available for reuse.
