Delta Citation, a Virginia-based commercial real estate developer and owner of commercial investment property throughout the state, has acquired Lucky's of Salisbury and announced plans for a capital improvement program expected to approach $1 million. The project will transform the nearly 40-year-old convenience store and fueling station into a more modern neighborhood destination while preserving the local character that has made it a staple of the community since 1985.
At a time when many independent neighborhood convenience stores are being replaced by national chains or redevelopment projects, Lucky's will remain a locally operated community fixture. The planned investment will modernize the property, create new jobs, expand amenities for residents, and ensure the long-term viability of one of Salisbury's most enduring businesses.
For generations of residents, Lucky's has been more than a convenience store. It has served as a daily stop, a neighborhood gathering place, and a familiar landmark woven into the fabric of the community.
Planned improvements include exterior cosmetic improvements, a renovated interior, expanded food and beverage offerings, fountain drinks, a walk-in beer cave, upgraded fuel pumps, a modernized fuel canopy, new public restrooms, enhanced landscaping, and an outdoor patio area designed to create a more welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike. The store will remain open throughout the renovation process.
The acquisition follows the retirement of the store's longtime operator after decades of service to the Salisbury community.
"Every community has places that become part of daily life. For Salisbury, Lucky's is one of those places," said Adam Hardage, an Operating Director of Delta Citation. "People have been stopping at Lucky's since 1985, and generations of residents have memories tied to this store. We're making a substantial investment because we believe places like this matter. Our goal is not to change what Lucky's is—it's to preserve what people love about it while creating a destination that can serve the community for years to come."
Hardage added, "Salisbury is one of the most established and respected communities in Chesterfield County, and we believe its commercial center should reflect that. This investment is another step in our long-term commitment to Salisbury Village and our ongoing efforts to enhance the businesses and services that support the neighborhood."
The Lucky's project represents the latest phase of Delta Citation's ongoing investment in Salisbury Village Commercial Center. The company continues to expand its presence within the center and views the revitalization of Lucky's as an opportunity to enhance one of the community's most visible and heavily visited properties while supporting the long-term vitality of the surrounding businesses.
Located at 14051 Steeplestone Drive, the property sits within the Salisbury Village Commercial Center alongside Spring Arbor of Salisbury, Rockwell Physicians, Angus Dental, Premier Insurance, Atlantic Title, and Jin Cleaners.
Additional project details and construction timelines will be announced as renovations progress.
