Dr. Betof is a medical oncologist currently serving as Associate Professor of Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine and was previously at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She is Medical Director (physician leader) Melanoma Oncology and a Mark & Mary Stevens Endowed Faculty Scholar.
Dr. Romee is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and an oncologist at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. He leads the Romee lab for NK Cell Gene Manipulation and Therapy and is a member investigator at the Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy.
As members of the Scientific Advisory Board, Drs. Betof and Romee will review, evaluate, and help make award decisions for NCC’s fellowship program, which funds early and promising research for the diagnosis and treatment of human cancer.
“We are delighted to welcome Drs. Betof and Romee to our Board,” said NCC Scientific Advisory Board Chair Victoria Seewaldt, M.D., Ph.D., City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center. “Their rich expertise in medical oncology and passion for research to find causes and treatments for cancer will bring new energy and ideas to our cause.”
Dr. Betof said: “National Cancer Center fills a critical gap in cancer research by supporting promising early-stage research from young scientists. I am excited to join the Scientific Advisory Board to support potentially exceptional but often underfunded research pathways that could lead to a cure.”
Dr. Romee said: “Joining this Scientific Advisory Board is a remarkable opportunity to help steer the future of oncology discovery. NCC has a proven track record of supporting bold, cutting-edge research that larger institutions might overlook. I am eager to leverage my background in cancer immunotherapy to help select and champion the most promising scientific projects."
This year, NCC awarded $426,000 to a total of seven recipients—four first-time awards and three renewals—from a broad universe of premier cancer research institutions in the United States. The four women and three men hail from China, the Netherlands, London and the U.S., forming a global constellation of best-in-class researchers.
Further details of these awards can be found on our grants page.
In addition to Drs. Betof, Romee, and Seewaldt, NCC’s Scientific Advisory Board includes David Knorr, M.D., Mariana Oncology, and Janet M.D. Plate, Ph.D., retired from Rush University.
